How to Save Money at All Creatures Veterinary Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m from Reno and unfortunately we have a huge lack of avian vets in our town, especially for emergency cases. I called them and explained what was going on with my bird, who had gotten attacked by a cat and was in critical condition. They told me to bring him in immediately and were very attentive and quick to get him in. The staff helped accommodate me with my long drive, recommending the best care for my bird and how I should go about treating him due to the distance. I opted to do hospitalization with them and the vet tech Laura gave me detailed updates whenever I called, and genuinely seemed to care about my birds health. I appreciate so much the care that Dr. LaRue and Laura showed my little Goob. Within 24 hours, he perked up and was climbing all over his cage again. Now he is getting back to his normal self and I’m extremely grateful. Thank you so much All Creatures Vet, you saved my bird and he is happy as can be.

On 4/25/23, I needed to put my chicken down after I got home from work. The Bird and Pet clinic that I normally go to closes at 6pm and they had no available appointments for that evening so they recommended the All Creatures Veterinary Clinic. Long story short, All Creatures Veterinary Clinic has this heartbreaking policy where they don't allow owners in with the pet. It was mind blowing for me to learn of this. If my chicken could wait another day I would've left but unfortunately she was in too much pain and I couldn't bear the thought of letting her suffer another day. I didn't want my chicken to be stressed and looking at unfamiliar faces during her last moments on this earth. I was able to convince the technician to give her the injection right there in the parking lot. My poor beautiful chicken had to die with constant noise around, people walking around, laughing, cars honking, etc. I chose this over her suffering another night. The technician was very good to us and very caring and I appreciate her for agreeing to help, the front desk person was also unbelievably kind but I do not understand and never will why the doctor on duty who supposedly cares for the animals refused to allow us to give my precious chicken a comfortable and quiet place to die in a room. Supposedly they don't have rooms available to see pets with owners next to them. Then why open up this "hospital?" This makes me question the quality of care they provide if they don't want owners to be present. I feel that a doctor shouldn't be treating animals if he/she mandates this rule that owners have to leave their pet in their care for medical treatment or euthanasia. It's stressful enough for a pet to be there, let alone to not see their owner next to them. If you have a choice, go to another vet clinic. I give 5 stars to the front desk person and technician and 0 stars to the doctor.

This vet is wonderful. The entire staff team is educated about rats and the importance of treating them for respiratory. They were quick and accommodating when I brought my rat named Spaghetti in for treatment, and remembered him when later I had to bring him in to be euthanized. They were gentle to him, and I never once got the sense that they thought it was silly to see me sobbing and heartbroken over my tiny little rat. I was so grateful for this kindness. Never once did they regard him as gross, either. It mattered to me a lot when so many other places wouldn't have been so kind. Over all a wonderful place. I take all of my rats here.

Had to put my beloved cat down today and Christine helped me through the entire process. She was so compassionate and was there for me to comfort me. She was a true angel and I will forever be grateful to her and this practice for helping me through this horrible time. The doctor was very good too and there was another lady that was kind too but didn't catch her name. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

After calling 6 or 7 vets to get our cat in last night I stumbled upon all creatures phone number. They were able to get us in, evaluated, treated, and sent home within 3 hours. We are shocked how affordable the bill was with x-rays, labs, and medication. This will definitely be our go to for any emergency pet care!
