How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very pleased with the Banfield staff and the veterinarians in the El Segundo Petco. They have done an excellent job taking care of our pets. The only downside is having to drop them off instead of being able to stay with them. They have all been great.

I brought one of my comfort pets to Banfield in El Segundo when he wasn’t feeling well, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The vet assistants were gentle and clear, walking me through each step without pressuring extra services. They explained options for care and payment, which I really appreciated. The veterinarian was best-in-class—thorough, compassionate, and transparent. He reviewed all the test results with me and explained that my pet has diabetes, then recommended the right food and care plan. He even made himself available for follow-ups, which gave me peace of mind. Banfield’s programs are excellent, and despite being inside PetSmart, this clinic holds its own against the best vet offices in Los Angeles. Highly recommend.

I love Banfield! Not only have they taken wonderful care of our furry family members during checkups but also during emergency visits. I have traveled with my fur babies from the West Coast to the East Coast too many times to count …. I take great solace in the fact that any Banfield across the nation can care for them.

Banfield is horrible. I took my cat here to get a simple check up on some lumps I was feeling on her tummy. My cats mom had the same thing I wanted to make sure that I was going to do all the steps early so that I can be informed of any tumors or growths. Banfield told me that my cat's tumors were benign, so I was happy to hear that. About a a few days later, my cat started experiencing some issues. She was becoming lethargic, not eating or drinking. When I told Banfield of this, they asked me to bring her back in. I told them no, because I felt that they did something to her. I wanted to get a second opinion from a different source. I had a mobile vet that came and checked on her, and they told me that she was basically dying. I don't know what Banfield did to my cat. But I was heartbroken. How does a simple checkup turn into my cat dying. I felt something was off the day I brought my cat home. I just couldn't explain it, but she just wasn't acting. The same, and then when I saw that she was becoming lethargic, and then it was having issues. I felt that banfield injected her with something else that I was unaware of I never asked for a vaccination. I never asked for anything else to be done to my cat. Except for a checkup on the tumors, which were benign. So if a cat's tumors are benign, and they promised me that they didn't do any vaccinations or shots or anything of that nature? Why would my cat be in such uh feeling of distress. Within 2 and a 1/2 weeks, my cat was gone. She was barely 6 years old and the love of my life. I will never trust Banfield. I even have a funny feeling about shopping at the locations where Banfield is being operated at. I suggest that anyone that takes their animal to Banfield, but they look add the reviews before taking an innocent animal that can't speak and can't be heard for the pain and the suffering that they do at this hospital. Please be aware that they have no care or sympathy for your pets.

I’m extremely disappointed with the care (or lack thereof) my dog received at Banfield inside PetSmart. Not only was I charged for services that were never performed, but I was also misled about my dog’s blood work results. After the appointment, I was told everything came back “normal”—only to later review the lab results myself and see that there were clearly abnormal values. No one from the clinic contacted me or explained these findings, which could have had serious implications for my dog’s health. This kind of neglect is completely unacceptable for a veterinary clinic. When I called to clarify, the staff was dismissive and offered no real explanation for the charge or the miscommunication. Trust is critical when it comes to veterinary care, and unfortunately, Banfield has completely lost mine. Pet parents deserve transparency, accountability, and actual follow-through—not careless mistakes and empty reassurances. I won’t be returning.
