How to Save Money at Firestone Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Do not take your pets here. Terrible customer service, not informative at all, and very rude when I asked for clarification about my dog’s visit. I wasn’t even allowed into the back to be with my dog when she got her shots, and was only allowed to see the vet after several demands, because it’s not custom to see the vet. What kind of hospital won’t let the patient’s parents speak to the vet? They were definitely just trying to scam people for money.

Horrible, this hospital if you can call it that just takes your money, no blood work done, they basically guess what the animal has and then tries to sell you all these things and food that is not necessary plus how can you diagnose without any type of analysis. Never been this disappointed on a place as I am with this one. They treated my cat and he’s even worst than how I took him they didn’t run any test to see if he was poisoned or if he’s blood tests look normal nothing so I just waisted $500 for nothing!!! Pointless right now I’m taking my cat to the hospital because this so called hospital which is no hospital could not help one bit. Now to spend more money but hopefully they can actually help me out unlike here they honestly just take advantage of people and pets.

Even with an appointment anticipate over 2 hours of wait time. Severely overbooked. The staff tends to push unnecessary additions - every time I’ve gone they say my pet has fleas (guaranteed they do not) to push flea meds and creams when it’s not needed. Also they really like to push for prescription food. Be prepared for a laundry list of things that your pet does not need! Will not be returning.

Please AVOID at all costs!!! They over medicate and may harm your beloved pets!!! I would like to provide a warning to potential customers that my experience with this particular vet was not a positive one. From my perspective, I strongly advise against bringing your pets to this vet unless it is absolutely necessary in an emergency situation and there are no other options available to you. During my visit, I encountered a number of issues that left me feeling extremely uncomfortable. Firstly, the vet was insistent on giving my puppy a large number of unnecessary shots during a routine check-up. Additionally, the entire process was going to be unnecessarily expensive over $500, and I felt that I was being upcharged without proper justification. Despite repeatedly asking for a quote, I was not given a clear answer. To make matters worse, I had to wait for 45 minutes before being seen. The front desk lady was rude, and the vet assistant tried to convince me that my dog needed these shots, which I knew to be untrue. I felt as though the vet was more interested in making a profit than caring for my pet's wellbeing. Based on my experience, I am concerned that this particular vet may not genuinely care for animals, and it seems as though their practice is profit-based. I believe that some corporate-owned vet practices may prioritize profit over the welfare of their animal patients, and this particular vet may be one of them. I strongly advise potential customers to avoid this vet if at all possible. Please exercise caution and seek other options if available. I urge you to do your own research and make an informed decision for the sake of your beloved pets!!!

I called , questioned ,made an appointment for my puppy (1st vet visit ever) . They gave me an appointment on a Sat at 3:30, showed up 15 minutes earlier , filled out form . Waited for about 30 minutes . I got asked the same questions (2) that I had answered in the form. Then I asked how much longer would it take for us to get called in , they said 35 mins to an hr ! Or maybe longer because there are 3 dogs ahead of yours . (Walk-ins). I live 4 minutes away , so told them I'd be back in 30 minutes ,called and they said they were not done with the other 2 dogs . Won't continue, but the service was just horrible !
