How to Save Money at Eye Care for Animals - Culver City

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Fabulous caring doctor! Dr. Fahrer is smart, kind and has excellent communication. She was careful to explain the process and treatment options for our Golden Retriever who has glaucoma. After the surgery I was delighted to receive a phone call that evening from Dr. Fahrer — that’s great old school patient care. The entire staff at the Culver City office is super nice and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! And, best of all, the surgery was a complete success and Libby is doing great playing with her sister!

My wife and I came here yesterday with our three-year-old Chihuahua who has been struggling with eye issues since he was a puppy. We had brought him in for a follow-up, we are new to the state but not to this practice we have been patients of EyeCare for a long time just in a different state. Judy made our experience horrible. We were really taken aback by how she chose to handle our frustrations about the lack of communication during the visit. She made us feel like we had done something wrong and that we had no right to be upset. My wife was trying to explain why we were upset and how nobody had communicated with us on what the process is at this office she cut my wife off at every other word. My wife had to stop and ask her to stop, and let her finish speaking. She came in the room with the Doctor it seemed like a form of intimidation, odd behavior for a member of management. It seemed almost like she enjoyed escalating the situation. Judy never once even attempted to apologize to us, her response was we could take our dog and leave! We really like the Doctor and the front desk staff. Judy, you turned a simple follow-up appointment into a fight. Judy this bad review is based on how you treated us and the horrible way you decided to handle a simple issue.

The doctors are great, but the rest of the operation stinks. A bunch of young assistants who waste a lot of customer time by not answering calls, not returning calls, making it extremely difficult to get an appointment, etc. Their location is cold and unfriendly and very far from where most people live. I wonder why I waste my time on this place. It is only the good doctor that has kept me coming back, but I should not have to be treated poorly by a negligent and lazy staff in order to see a doctor. I'm looking into options so I will not have to deal with these people anymore. Actually I think they are part of a huge limited partnership with many levels of profit for investors and administrators. You aren't really dealing with doctors anymore in these big corporate offices. Charging customers for mandatory follow up appointments and then making it near impossible to get the appointment? Shame on them. It's a low trick. They should know better.

What a lovely, wonderful, and knowledgeable place with equally wonderful staff. I bought in my 19 year-old baby, Pupperoni who was having issues with his eye. They were able to get us rather quickly and they were so kind and took their time with Pupper.

Parking is a bit weird. Staff is amazing and kind. Dr. C Fahrer is really patient, knowledgeable, honest and sweet. My baby boy wasn't AS stressed at this location as he was everywhere else so that was a huge relief. I would love to come back to this location!
