How to Save Money at Emergency Animal Hospital of San Gabriel Valley

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Even though we didn't get the news we were hoping for when taking our dog there, I appreciate all of the information the emergency doctor gave us regarding our dogs prognosis. The statistics he provided helped us make a very hard but educated decision to let her go. Then they gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes to her, even after my children drove from home to come see her, also. The doctor was very sympathetic at a very difficult time for us. I only hope no other family goes through such a quick and unexpected loss, like we did. But the doctors here will provide you with the very best information regarding the care for your pet

My doggie was very ill, I was hoping she would make it until Monday to take her to my regular vet to put her down. Well she got so sick on Saturday night - Sunday morning I called Emergency Animal Hospital of San Gabriel Valley. I explained my situation, I talked it over with my family, I called the hospital back and advised I was on my way at 5:00am on Sunday morning. They were kind, empathetic and loving towards me and my Bella. They had a beautiful fragrance in the office and beautiful soft instrumental music playing in the background. They explained everything to expect and allowed me all the time I wanted with my Bella before and after the procedure. I got to be with Bella for her last breath of life and got to hold her for the last time. On top of all this I paid less for everything I wanted than I would have paid at my vet! Thank you to the staff for your loving approach to such a difficult time!

On Saturday morning I took my dog suburban husky he is 8 years old we went to our vet he couldn’t walk at all on his 2 back legs he had no control at all so we carried him to the car and took him. His nails were long so we just went there to cut them and took see at else is wrong. The cut them but they wheel him out and telling us he needs more care something else is wrong with him what he needs we don’t have and we are only half day on Saturday’s so they send us to his place this man was so nice and caring at the front desk. But this nurse didn’t want to use the cart she said it’s not good for him so she end up carrying him but doing that my dog was so in pain he pee on her. When the Dr. saw him he right way gave us bad news. He was telling us he has a slip disc and he looks so bony he ask if we feed him? Did he fell off from the stairs? My dad kept telling him he eats very well and no we live in on one story house. By looking at him they told us there was nothing they can do but to put him down explaining to us everything telling us he won’t walk again. My dog proved them wrong! He started to walk on Sunday night, and he walk very well today! He never last his appetite he eats very well!!!! We are so shock, bless that we didn’t listen to them we took him home! Just hoping that the nails were the cause of him not working.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET - DONT GO THERE We always took our pets to emergency clinic to El Monte. We were extremely happy with professionalism and care there. But it lloks that they closed the center. So I had to take my cat to this emergency care yesterday night. In short : They misdiagnosed it. They said he had a tumor. They refused help unless we buy a "package". All services they provide are in "packeges". The package they offered - came to 2900 USD. Original they said my cat really needed IV and stay overnight. For that we had to go with all tests on the list. Doctor said he needed IV through the vain as under the skin would not help him. I kept getting ready yaky feelings from their sales pitches and contradictions. So I wanted to walk away completely. After that doctor insisted that at least I need to do IV under the skin. We agreed. Supposedly they took him for that and he was out in 15 minutes. I had other pets who needed the service and took over couple of hours to hydrate them this way so it was already suspicious. After they brought him back there was no lamp on my cat, so i now I think they lied about providing the service completely. We paid over 400 for all that. While we were waiting we had pet owners another cat that died in this hospital care. They went to private room, but we could hear the conversation. It sounded like:"we don't know why your cat died, but he was "intact" and this way male cats have shorter life. They kept lecturing dead pet owners of necessity of sterilization. I just couldn't believe anyone could be so insensitive. My boy made it through the night but was in an awful shape. I took it to our regular doctor. He put him under IV immediately even though he said prognosis are not great. He did a blood test and 20 minutes they already knew that my cat had bad infection (as I thought) and the internal systems were failing. So it had bad smell. Emergency room doctor said my boy had dental problems!! Backsight - i regret not checking on their credentials. I doubt they have enough compression to work with living things My other regret not having a back plan for emergency care for my cat. As I will never ever take any of my place, and if you love your pet - you shouldn't take it there either

We had to come in to have our dog put to sleep…it was obviously a difficult experience, but the staff here was courteous and compassionate, and gave us all the time we needed. Whether for regular care or for end of life care, I’d recommend them, they made a tough day a little easier.
