How to Save Money at Sierra Animal Wellness Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could rate less then one star I would This place treated my precious cat named Magnolia for Pyometra, I was charged $332 for the “so called” treatment. I was sent home with medication to inject in her and I was told that the infection would clear up & to make a follow up appointment in a couple weeks. I did just that, during the follow up appointment not only was I charged additionally for that appointment, I was also told she was healthy and good to go. (Please note: during the follow up visit with Sierra animal wellness center, not only was I told magnolia was healthy, but I could also breed her before her next heat and then I would have to get her spayed, so the infection doesn’t happen again) 2 weeks later, magnolia is acting sleepy & not eating much, something told me to get her to a different veterinarian as soon as possible. so I decided to take her to “Mother Lode veterinarian hospital” in grass valley the next day. I had to make an emergency surgery appointment because magnolia almost died because the infection did not clear up, so not only was I charged from Sierra animal wellness for something that was not diagnosed/treated properly because she never had an ultrasound from her original diagnosis, I also had to pay double the price because of the emergency surgery at another vet. If I didn’t listen to my gut feeling and take her to Mother Lode Vet, my cat would’ve died within weeks. Completely ridiculous!!!! “Holistic” approach? Yea right!! Thank God for mother lode veterinarian hospital in grass valley. They are amazing.!!! 100% blessed my precious Magnolia is alive today.

I cannot recommend this vet office enough. My chihuahua is not the easiest of patients, and these guys handled him so well! They're extremely patient, and did such a great job. Also their pricing is very reasonable compared to any other vet I've been to.

I came here looking for a holistic approach for my dog's medical needs... I'm very excited with the possibility of a better care without damaging side effects from pharmaceutical treatments. I also wanted to make sure his non-dog food diet was giving him the proper nutrition he needed. I loved that my big boy and his high energy didn't scare anyone away. They were all great with him! Plus love them office kitties.💖

Dr. Peggy Roberts and her office team take care of my three dogs wonderfully. From teeth cleanings, wellness checkups, supplements and medications, and even nail trimming, it's all here. I recommend her highly.

Mask Nazis To your response! No one asked us to put on a mask when we got there. Nor did the receptionist inform me that was a requirement when I was making the appointment. Also the receptionist told us to be there by 9am. Only when my husband and I was asked to go into a room was it told to us that we needed to wear one. At that time I told her very clearly we do NOT wear masks! Then after 10 minutes of waiting she came back and said the Dr. Will not see you if you don't wear a mask. We said that's fine we will go. She said then go!!! I didn't rip the cone out of her hand I took it firmly. And I didn't slam the door I left it open and she shut the door. Get your fasts straight. What is your Doctor doing now for her safety as the mask mandate is OVER!!!
