How to Save Money at Burbank Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Burpee is AMAZING. We switched to Dr. B through the referral of a friend. Our previous vet had ZERO experience with pregnant dogs/litters. We had adopted our dog pregnant. We thought she had ticks, and our old vet told us we couldn't use any prevention on her because of her pregnancy. They offered us no solution to getting rid of them before the puppies came. When the puppies came, one of them was involved in an accident with mom, and instead of going to my old vet I went to Dr. B. She noticed something on the puppy, and took a look at it under the microscope. Guess what? THE DOGS HAD LICE! Our old vet didn't even bother to properly diagnose the problem! Dr. B had us use Frontline Plus on the mom (Which is OKAY for pregnant/nursing dogs. If we had just gone to Dr. B in the first place, we would've solved this problem before the puppies came. Now we were battling how to get rid of lice on 2 week old puppies!) Dr. B helped us find a solution to all of our problems regarding the puppies and mom. She is a saint. She also literally saved the lives of my litter. When my puppies fell sick, one of them suddenly passed away (maybe from choking on vomit, maybe from fluids in the lungs, we don't know). That night we hurried them off to ASG - where the emergency vet told us that if we didn't hospitalize our puppies, they would all die because she claimed they had distemper. The vet said we couldn't put them all on antibiotics, and we couldn't administer an IV at home. We called Dr. B's office right when they opened the next day, and they squeezed our puppies in first thing in the morning. Her staff taught me how to IV them, and she put them on antibiotics. Within a couple of days, all of their fevers were gone and they were eating and playing again. Dr. B had us do a test on two of them to be sure it wasn't distemper or parvo (both tested negative). Instead of just giving up on them like the emergency vet, she worked with us to test them and do everything we could to keep them alive and get them better. (Which they are now!) Dr. B even called me to check up on how the puppies were doing, which meant so much to us. She really cares, and when she doesn't have the answer to something, she researches and gets back to you. THIS IS HUGE! It's great to have a vet that says "I don't know, let me find out" versus one that says "I don't know" and offers no solutions. She is so patient, knowledgable, and helpful. Like the other reviews say, they are a little on the expensive side, but she works with you and has NEVER pressured us to spend money we don't have. They have even worked with us on our bills, because 6 puppies is expensive! They are definitely worth it. These gorgeous pups are here today thanks to Dr. B

SOCAL LIVING

Extremely overpriced. Insanely expensive. Know how when you go to a mechanic they give you a list of all these things that need to be done because they want to charge you the most possible highest price ever when in reality most of it isn’t necessary that’s how they are here. Know what you need to get done decline all the other things that arent necessary and be knowledgeable on what’s realistic. With all that being said the vets here are extremely knowledgeable and educated I’m not complaining about how good of vets they are they are very very good vets but I am saying that their business practice of giving you multiple pages of things that should be done that aren’t necessarily necessary it’s a bad business practice I know they’re making tons of money doing it this way but just go in there knowing what you need to have done and don’t fall for spending another $400 to 800 every time you visit because of other stuff they want you to do

I switched to Burbank vet centre from a friend's reccomendation. Our friend found our dog George, in an abandoned picnic area in Texas and couldn't leave him behind. we ended up fostering and adopting him but we suspect he was hit my a car as he had a broken leg and hip. He also had heartworm. The first vet told us his legs had to be amputated but he could miraculously walk, run, and jump, so we wanted a second opinion. We requested to see Dr. Burpee but we ended up seeing dr.Ceko. We saw dr B for a visit where she fully explained the situation with George's legs and told us we didn't have to amputate! She was very thorough and knowledgeable and I appreciated that so much. With Dr. Ceko, she is so kind and gentle, I felt so comfortable and at ease because you can feel her love and care for animals. We loved seeing her on the regular and she got our George through heartworm treatment. The vet techs as well were so gentle and kind to George, and remembering him by name each time I took him back just felt like that small town touch. Before we began the expensive part of the heartworm treatment, a kind lady who rescues dogs from Mexico overheard our story and donated the vaccines, saving us around $3000. I never got to thank her in person but if you are reading this, you had me in tears! You were an answer to many prayers and George is heartworm free, doing well, and loving his life in Canada. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Our experience with burbank vet centre was wonderful and I continue to reccomend them when people ask. We moved to Canada in Sept 2022 but I wanted to make sure I gave a shoutout to the wonderful doctors, vet techs, and front desk staff of Burbank Vet Centre. If you want thorough care for your animal, come here.

i don’t like leaving reviews but i feel i have to because this place is ridiculous. they scared me into thinking something is seriously wrong with my dog’s heart. i was pressured/guilt tripped into paying $1,500+ on tests etc. and there is nothing wrong with my dog. BEWARE they take advantage of your love for your animal and make you feel like a monster if you don’t blindly give them your money.

Insanely overpriced. Exam fee went from $50-$65 in a year for what? For the doctor’s time it takes to “look at the dog” a whopping ten minutes. She tried to upsell me on three cans of dog food for $135 — that was the last straw for me.
