How to Save Money at Oak Valley Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I'm still processing the passing of my fur baby. But my respect for Oak Valley Animal Hospital. They are so caring. I felt the love and caring for pets right when I walked in. They gave us all the time we needed with Charlie (my fur baby) as I lay him to rest. The girls at the front desk took care of my son as I said my goodbye to Charlie. Which I was grateful for. They didn't have to do that, but it was really sweet of them. This was the first time going through something like this, and it was hard, but they made it less stressful for me. I am forever grateful to all staff and doctor. 🙏 I 100% recommend their services. •clean environment •reasonable price •very helpful •respectful •amazing doctor •caring/loving to all pets Thank you again from the bottom of my heart 🩵

I needed an emergent appointment for a pet i was sitting, and they managed to squeeze us in. I had called about half a dozen places, and no others were able to take us. They were very prompt and friendly. It cost less than the estimate, which is nice. It's a very clean facility, with no foul odors (which can be expected when dealing with animals). I had previously taken my own pet here to be neutered. I had a good experience that time as well.

Dangerous Veterinary Hospital, not even a one star, in fact should be reported. They want you to sign a waiver understanding your being recorded well we want all those recordings made public so we can expose this Veterinary Hospital. I made an appointment a month ago. I have a 8 week old puppy who is susceptible like every other puppy and should not be taken out until they have their shots. So a month before he came home I made the appointment. I go in and not only do they make me wait 45 minutes past the time to be seen and then just wanted to take my puppy away without knowing any medical history at all to give him his shots. He has had two already they did not care to ask me so I told them he cannot just go back with them I need to speak to somebody so they said if that is the case I need to come back another day even though he has now been around many dogs. I told her they need to do something about this because this puts my dog at risk and it's not right well telling them what is true made her very mad and she said we could not go to that clinic. Trust me I would have never stepped foot back in there. But definitely made for another wow moment. They are dangerous not intelligent one bit and extremely rude. They heard people and animals in like cattle for money. I was able to make a new appointment and Redlands Animal Hospital is absolutely amazing, took the time to make me feel better after Oak Valley was so horrible and was able to take care of my beautiful brand new husky. You are very desperate if you go to Oak Valley Animal Hospital. Call and report if anything has happened to your dog or any other pet.

This was my vet. Not anymore. The front desk woman has the worst customer service skills I have ever seen. She is rude and uncaring as she gleefully tells you that you are going to have to wait for weeks to get an appointment even if your pet is experiencing an emergency. Because of her attitude I will be finding a new vet for my 5 dogs. Additionally, the answering service they use doesn't even know what time the clinic opens; DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY!!!! So I immediately got a call because of this review. I have a BULLDOG and this clinic expected me to wait in the car all day in order for her to be seen. She was bleeding out of one nostril. She has restricted nares and can barely breath as it is. She overheated in the car and the staff made me so uncomfortable that I didn't even feel welcome enough to ask for a bowl of water. I am absolutely appalled at the uncaring approach this clinic now has towards people experiencing emergencies.
