How to Save Money at Moon Valley Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough about the entire staff of Moon Valley. I have taken all four of my dogs and my cat here, and everything from larger procedures to check ups, they are always so friendly amd happy to see us the minute we walk in the door. Dr. Kelly walked us through every step and every option when one of my babies was fighting blood cancer and made a heartbreaking and terrifying journey just a little bit easier. Kayla, Hannah, Amy, Sally and all the techs are just absolutely the best, even when it comes to handling my giant, clumsy great dane who just wants pats and treats and will raid pockets to get it! They are always willing to take time to answer my questions and listen to concerns, I never feel rushed out the door. THANK YOU for taking such amazing care of all our fur-children!

My other vet wasn’t available to get one of my cats in, so I called Moon Valley Animal Hospital and they luckily had an appointment to see her. The front office administrator was very friendly and kind. They got my Adeline back quickly. The assistant and the Veterinarian was very thorough and they helped me feel at ease. They gave excellent service and I would definitely go back if I ever had to. I would also definitely recommend their services to anyone who has a fur baby and wants a Vet that will provide excellent care.

In mid-July, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to say goodbye to our cat after 17 wonderful years. The staff at Moon Valley Animal Hospital was compassionate, supportive, and truly caring throughout the entire process. A couple of weeks later, we received a beautiful thank-you and sympathy card signed by the team, which meant so much to us during a hard time. They truly went above and beyond. A special thank you to Sabrina and Steph for their kindness.

I've been going here for years. I received a call saying i need to come in to follow up on my dogs treatment. While I was making the appointment I made a comment about pricing to the receptionist. I guess it was noted in my chart. She also asked who we normally seen and I said any of the Hatfields. When my husband took our dog in for the appointment Dr. Les asked my husband why he requested him, if he was there to confront him. Dr Les was so unprofessional. Also, the comment i made was about charging to get my dogs blood pressure taken. It was $30. I was just there 10/13 and it's now $45 just get get his blood pressure taken. I will be finding another Vet.

Please read: It started when they refused to give me any advice on how to clean/dress my cats wound unless I upgrade my already completed appointment for I believe about 80-100$. I was coming in for regular tech visits already, and she had over groomed and it was causing her cut to open further. They refused any advice (including telling me that what I was doing was wrong, using neosporin is toxic to cats). Eventually I found out, fixed it and moved on but later I was directly confronted by an employee for discussing the issue in a different review. A few months later, after my cat HAD ALREADY RECEIVED HER INJECTION, an employee comes in to tell me her medication has gone up from about 86$ to roughly 119$. I began looking for a new vet but just a month later I called back (from a new number) to confirm these new prices, however they told me the price for a tech visit for Solensia for a cat like mine would be only 93$. BUT AFTER I IDENTIFIED MYSELF by name and phone number, she put me on hold for 5 minutes before returning to tell me that MY price is 119$. So, in short, they do not care about your animal, and in fact will become vindictive to you and your pet the moment they don't like you or you discuss their short comings.
