How to Save Money at Green Valley Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The absolute WORST veterinary experience in 25 years of animal companionship! If I could give zero stars, I would. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Went in for a first puppy visit and while the front desk assistant was very nice, the veterinarian herself was rude and unprofessional from the moment we stepped into the office. Just a tip: if you hate your profession that much, it may be time to retire! Not only did she not do an actual exam on my puppy - which is what we paid for - she didn’t ask any questions about him or his health, made multiple ignorant comments about his breed, and was very rough when giving his shot. When I tried to ask a few questions, she rolled her eyes and gave short, rude responses. I asked if I could pay for an ear cleaning and she rudely replied ‘you need to learn to do that yourself.’ Which I know how to do on my adult dogs, but was hoping to have done in-office since he’s a puppy and I wanted to make sure it was done correctly. The exam room was also unclean and the table clearly hadn’t been sanitized - dog hair everywhere. Worst experience EVER. It’s too bad that ignorant, outdated veterinarians like this are still in business.

No Thanks

Vet came highly recommended by one of the doctors in our office so I gave Dr. Sophia a try. After reading the other reviews I understand why some people say she is incredibly rude. She is, but in my opinion its because I hadn't taken my pet to the vet in a few years and I don't have access to their records anymore. The attitude the vet gave me while she was questioning me was a huge turn off to ever visiting this office again. She made it seem like I had burdened her with my pets veterinary care and like she didn't even want to treat them because "I" had brought them in. After she realized she was upsetting me with how she was talking (and me outright saying, "so are you not going to treat them?") she did drop the attitude and then address my concerns with my pets health. She is very knowledgeable and she informed me of some possible reasons for health issues without pushing anything on me. I am only writing this review in a negative light now because as i was going to pay she came by and said, "are they worth it?" which, only because of how she was talking down to me before, really rubbed me the wrong way. She may even say that to everyone when she leaves but it sure feels like this lady wants to confirm everyones fear of medical visits. Reading her glowing reviews it's apparent to me that she's only going to treat you with respect if you return to her for years. I'll unfortunately have to find a new vet before then. The receptionist and tech were both very nice.

The receptionist was very rude on the phone and in person. The receptionist judged my mom with my kids thinking the kids were going to destroy the clinic, after realizing they were well behaved. Veterinarian was rude when my mom tried to help get my dog to calm his nerves and stay still, the vet shushed my mom. They made it seem like we were irresponsible for our dog having long hair. We groom our dog consistently we just had to hold off due to our dog needing to update his shots! Wouldn’t recommend as they seem very judgmental and careless! On another note the assistant was the only nice one that seem to care more then her other employees.

0 stars. We had to have our 12 year old mastiff euthanized by Dr Sophia Kaluzniacki in 2018 and it has been one of the biggest regrets of my life. She stuck him with the needle before I could even sit by him, on the cold concrete floor, in a tiny room, in the corner by the door. He was gone before I could even touch him, his bladder let go, and she told us we had to leave so they could clean up. The rest of the staff have been wonderful, kind, caring, and apologetic for their employers words and actions then, and since. On our last appointment with our 7 yo female mastiff (who LOVES people, just not Dr K ..hmm) they put us in the same tiny room our last dog was euthanized in, for over half an hour, and she doesn't come into the room until I tell the assistant we're going to wait outside. She then proceeds to state that she doesn't like my dog and doesn't want to treat her, that my dog "should never have been bred" and "should. not. be.", saying she didn't want to "deal" with "it", calling the dog that is hiding between my legs (getting hugs) aggressive, and leaving me absolutely humiliated and so angry that I was in tears. My dog just needs a muzzle at the vet, she freezes and growls, because she is scared. And with good reason it seems, since the Dr. doesn't think she should even exist. This is my experience. Your mileage may vary. Good luck.

Dr. Sophia has been our vet for 17 years. All of our pets have received excellent care over the years. We would not consider going anywhere else. You might find a fancier office but you won't find another vet with as much knowledge and experience as Dr.Sophia.
