How to Save Money at Duval Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Took my dog in with an infection of the eyes and mouth. Dr Potts initially saw him and treated him with a steroid shot and some mild antibiotics which unfortunately didn’t take care of the problem. Brought him in again for recheck and Dr Potts seems stumped as to what it was but tried different meds, still didn’t work. I called to let them know after 5 days of treatment and the receptionist I spoke to said Dr Potts said she can give him a steroid injection and “didn’t remember all the sores on his chin” really? After seeing him twice in 10 days? Did you not look at his chart? She already did the steroid injection. Is a steroid injection her go to treatment for everything? So then I make appointment to see Dr Wilkinson for second opinion. The facility would not charge me the recheck fee of $66 but I had to pay the $86 exam fee because I was seeing a different Dr. Hmmm. Even after complaining and explaining the situation…. Nope that’s policy. So enters Dr Wilkinson (who examined my dog in the back room), and says “I wouldn’t have given him either of the treatments” that Dr Potts gave him and prescribed more potent meds. So my dog leaves the facility with bleeding eyes and chin and they know he’s been scratching at these sores but do not put a cone on him. So now if I want a cone I have to bring my dog back and get fitted for a cone and oh ya pay the fee also. In my 50 yrs of dealing with vets this has been the worst experience. Total incompetence at this place, I will not be returning.

Lovely group of people who always take great care of my beloved pets. I’ve been coming here for over a year and have had multiple visits due to some various health issues with my two cats. Dr. Wilkinson is a wonderful, thorough veterinarian who really listens to owner’s concerns. He is knowledgeable, humble, and kind. He is great about providing all options available for treatment, and I have never felt any “sales” pressure to make a decision that I wasn’t comfortable with. Several times the folks at this practice have gone above and beyond to provide my pets with the best possible care and acknowledge my concerns with real empathy. Reception and Techs are always friendly and easy-going. They educate on questions about pet care without condescension. I have been a pet owner for 10 years living in 2 different states, and this is the best veterinary office I’ve found. Keep doing what you’re doing, Duval Animal Hospital! I actively recommend this practice to all of my friends and family in the Tucson area.

My cats always get a thorough, careful examination at Duval Animal Hospital and then I always receive a thorough, careful explanation of the exam results. I appreciate the time spent to fully inform me of the state of my pets' health and to address any concerns. The cats are receiving excellent care from this vet.

The staff is very friendly and professional. Facilities were very clean and comfortable. They even have access to financial services for which you can apply. My furry boy is coming back for follow-up services.

I cannot begin to express how sweet and professional the staff were. We are new to the area and our beloved senior dog took a turn for the worse, and it was time to put him to sleep. Our first experience with this vet was to schedule a euthanasia. They did not argue or try to talk us into treatment. They did have a variety of options, burial box cremation etc. but we have property and decided to take his body home with us. He was a larger sized dog, so the vet and tech put a blanket on the floor and we all sat on the blanket together and I held our sweet boy as he peacefully took his last breath. The staff stayed with us and gave us the time we needed with him. When we were ready, they wrapped him in a blanket and gently lifted him into our truck. They made our experience of having to say "good-bye" as good as it could have been. Thank you, your kindness is appreciated more than you know.
