How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center of Northern Arizona
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I'm so glad we could find a vet that was open 24 hours on the weekend. I was walking our dog on a camping trip and he got struck by a porcupine that was near our rv. They were super kind and I can't believe the comments from other folks. This is an animal hospital and we expected to pay a bunch especially for emergency services. But that wasn't the case. They put him under, took out the quills, woke him up and gave us meds . They showed us the prices of everything that was charged and it seemed reasonable. The manager was AMAZING and we're way more comfortable camping in flagstaff during the weekend cause of yall! Thank you from my partner, our pup Zoom Zoom and me! We love you guys!

I had occasion to use this wonderful emergency veterinarian yesterday after my 16 month old GSD-Huskie pup Billie was badly mauled by another dog during training at Topline K9 in Sedona, AZ. DO NOT USE Topline K9 TO TRAIN YOUR BELOVED DOG! See my separate review of their work if you want to know why. Dr. Ayman Wassef and his team members Nicki and Alyssa provided life saving care to Billie who had suffered a severe degloving wound when the other dog bit her, tearing off a 3 inch circle of fur and flesh, and causing a deep pocket of skin to be pulled away from the muscle of her side and abdomen. After determining that there was no abdominal penetration (thank goodness!) Dr. Wassef repaired the wound (sooo many sutures) installed a drain and sent my sweet dog home with me. Billie was in Dr. Wassef’s care for 12 hours and before I took her home Dr. Wassef and Alyssa spent another 45 minutes with me explaining the necessary post op procedures, the meds Billie needed and offered sage advice to aid in her recovery. Dr. Wassef is a dog owner himself and was also very kind and empathetic toward me about the emotional trauma I suffered during this event. I recommend the Veterinary Emergency and Specilty Center of Northern Arizona in the highest terms. If you are in the area and require emergency care for your dog, I wouldn't take them anywhere else! Thanks again Dr. Wassef, we will see you Friday to remove Billies drain!

kind and knowledgeable staff that took the time to let me know what was happening to my dog and get him to be much more comfortable. They even called me to check in on him. I had to drive 2.5-3 hours since our local vet doesn’t have capacity for emergency services. My dog, Ch’áayah, ultimately passed away a couple weeks after seeing them due to end stage heart failure. I would bring my cats here if I needed to. Thanks for taking care of my boy!

Dr. Wassef, Nikki, Alyssa and staff I might have not seen in the back were super helpful and carrying. Dr. Wassef explained everything so very well. I felt like my family member was in very good hands! Thank you to all of you for caring for him last Sunday night!!!

1000% about the money! Wouldn’t even look at our dying dog unless we paid $2,000 just for walking in the door after midnight. What’s the point of 24 emergency service if you literally rob people before even seeing their pet! STAY AWAY if you love your dog!! They clearly hurt more animals then they help….listen too the horrible rumors about this place. You all should be ashamed of yourselves!
