How to Save Money at Eye Care for Animals - Avondale

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

On Good Friday my dog woke up and was having trouble with an eye and I had to get him seen that day. The Avondale location saw him right away, and they were fabulous. Dr. Norman was wonderful and took care of my dog and I was able to have stress-free weekend. I can't thank Dr. Norman enough for her bed-side manner to both me and my little buddy. He recovered quickly and I recommend her highly to anyone with an animal that has any eye issues.

Dr. Norman is so kind and understanding. My dog is a difficult dog to be close to, he is fearful and prone to biting. Dr. Norman has always been wonderful with him.

They only care about the money! Our dog needed a prescription refill while my husband had been out of work for 3 months they refused unless we came in to have a recheck we told them we would when we had returned to work but they said sorry we will not give you his prescription we have been a customer for 6 years our dog is blind. How much money we have already spent! Well he returned to work and we paid the 168$ to get our dogs prescription. If there where any other way I would never return to this place

Let me first start out by saying, that I love this team of people here. I have a sweet baby who had bad cataracts and I was so determined to find a vet who could correct it. I researched, I called, I googled. And time after time i got "we dont do that here" "he is older, so i dont see why youd want to do it at his age" (he was 8) Then, I found Eyecare for animals. The sweet lady who took my call was so happy and helpful. Thank you Dee! They were so welcoming, so sweet and patient with me. Finally, someone cared as much as I did for my dog. I was skeptical by seeing all the happy stories but when I tell you that once we left after the consult I called my family in tears. Dr Norman is nothing short of AN ANGEL. she's a miracle worker. This woman I trust with my life (I know. I know) but when I tell you that she's literally a freaking gift, I mean it. My dog loved her, I loved her, my family loved her. I mean I look forward to walking into the office with my dog and seeing all the spectacular people who help these animals day after day. (We have had the pleasure in receiving care from these outstanding individuals: Dee, Cari, Deb, Allison, Stacey, and Dr Norman) All the fantastic people who work here, and put their love and compassion to our babies deserve the recognition. Dr Norman, and team from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for caring about our animals, about our families. Thank you for taking care of my sweet baby Duke. I could never begin to put into words the gratitude I have for you all. You don't just care about the animals but the humans who love them. ❤️

They genuinely cared about my old cat, Angel, who's eye had essentially bursted. She is a 16yr old cat and her normal vet was afraid to sedate her for the surgery due to age and her breathing, so I went to these folks for specialized care and she did wonderful. She healed perfectly and is just as beautiful as before, she just winks permanently now.
