How to Save Money at Lonoke Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've been taking my pets here for as long as I've had them. Great doctor and friendly staff, and they're always giving you options that are what's best for your pet and your budget. I live in Cabot, but still come here because they're the best!

I never ever ever do this but taking my dog to Lonoke Animal Hospital was not a good decision on my part & by far the worst experience I’ve had at a vet clinic. I’ll preface this with this: I’m thankful they worked my dog in and the doctor was nice and explained things well, but the staff alone is enough to stay away. I brought my dog in for what could have been an emergency (he was lethargic, wouldn’t eat, shaking, open mouth, shallow breathing). He’s an older dog (12 or 13) and has seizures so I was very worried about him. First, I wasn’t greeted at all. The two girls behind the desk just stared at me leaving me the one who was the first to talk (not how it’s supposed to be when entering a business). I was then turned away before even finishing my explanation about what was going on with my dog and was told the doctor was on lunch and usually takes a 2 hour lunch. That’s fine, I understood that. I was in town visiting my grandmother who had just had a stroke and did not want to leave town to find another vet so I monitored my dog and brought him back 2 hours later. The receptionist and vet tech were both so insensitive and rude. The receptionist told me, “it’s going to be an extensive wait, but I mean you can wait if you want to.” Of course I wanted to wait bc there was something wrong with my dog. One of the techs (the same one who turned me away earlier.. not sure if she was mad I came back or what?) came out and took my dog from me and I went to ask if I could go with him and she rudely****** said “we’ll put you in a room and the doctor will come talk to you” and walked off with my dog with 0 explanation as to what they were even doing with him. She later opened one of the exam room doors and said in a very bad manner, “the doctor can talk to you about your dog”. I simply asked what they did while they were back there& she was, of course, rude in her response. I would stay away, honestly. Don’t run an animal hospital if you and your staff don’t actually care about animals.

Very nice people that treat your pet like part of the family. Not just an animal.

The staff cares for your fur baby as if their own. They are compassionate in difficult times, reassuring when your pet is ill, and they do all they can to get your baby back to 100% health. We’ve used them for over 8 years and plan to continue to take our pets there for a long as they live.

Showed up with my dog who had been stabbed and was turned away and told to go somewhere else after I had already drove an hour to get here. If you’re going to run an animal hospital you need to actually care about animals.
