How to Save Money at VCA Animal Healing Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always excellent and professional advice and care. This is THE only Veterinary hospital that I feel comfortable with the expert holistic care for our dog(s). We have been coming here for over 30 years and know that we can choose to start with the lesser invasive modalities that are more gentle for our dog and go from there to the many different options. We live an hour away now and still choose VCA Animal Healing Center for our dog's care. She is so happy to go there and their care is stellar.

I have never taken my dogs anywhere but the VCA Animal Healing Center. Dr. Marx is, to put it simply, a gift. She and her team have taken care of my pets from puppies to, in the case of my boy Chooch, his afternoon to cross the Rainbow Bridge (which was handled with dignity and grace). And it’s not just Dr. Marx. It’s the techs (Jordan, Mallory, Lindsey, Cass). The office manager (Tina). The receptionists (Tobi, Allison). I have never felt rushed here. I have never felt pressured. Even during the pandemic, which was an extraordinarily stressful time for the veterinary industry, Dr. Marx and her team were there for me. I give them the highest recommendation possible.

I love Animal Healing Center! Everyone from the front to the techs to the Doctors are absolutely wonderful. My dog, Theo, has been a regular patient since we moved from city but was seen as an emergency today. We were given an appointment right away. We didn’t see Theo’s regular vet but the one we saw was just as thorough and compassionate. Treatment and costs (which were very reasonable especially for an emergency visit) were explained up front. I couldn’t ask for a better team of people treating my animals and I’m so thankful to have been referred here!

I have been bringing my pets to Dr. Braaz for over 15 years for chiropractic, acupuncture and homeopathics. She helped my dogs and cat when they were all dealing with allergies or digestive issues. My pug lived to be 16 thanks to Dr. Braaz treating him from the time he was a puppy and through his senior years. The holistic approach works! Highly recommend bringing your pets to see her!

I first went to the Animal Healing Center over 15 years ago when my dog at the time was very sick with lymph nodes the size of golf balls and no one, including the specialty vets, knew what to do for him. Dr. Braz treated him with a combination of holistic and conventional medicines and got him well when the other vets could not. He lived another 4 1/2 years after that! After that dear dog passed I got another rescue dog who has many issues from coming from an abusive situation. Of course I took him to see Dr. Braz who has treated him now for the last 11 years. Despite being a challenging dog with behavioral issues she is wonderful with him. And the rest of the staff has been great as well. This is just a very compassionate group of people who know how to treat animals and humans with dignity, respect and compassion.
