How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to bring our 12 year old dog to Blue Pearl on Sunday morning due to vomiting and diarrhea. Seeing as we were a lower priority case we did have to wait a bit which was expected. When Dr Sanders came in to treat him she was warm, friendly, and caring. We discussed our options and due to the fact that he was bright and alert and doesn't have a history of eating things he isn't supposed to decided to skip blood work and X-rays and just give him fluids and anti nausea medication. The whole facility was very clean and in good repair. We were in and out in a reasonable amount of time. We felt like we were in good hands the whole time we were there. Was it expensive? Yes. But that's to be expected in an emergency situation. Thank you again to the staff and Dr Sanders! Hopefully we don't see you again soon. 😆

We needed to make an emergency visit last evening at 1:30 AM. I called ahead just to confirm there would be a doctor available and of course there was. The receptionist, the nurse, and the doctor were all excellent. Dr. Perez was the doctor on duty and she is outstanding. She came back with a diagnosis that I believe was spot on and really gave us great comfort. My dog is home and he’s doing extremely well and we are now better suited to understand any symptoms going forward. Thank you, thank you thank you. I haven’t been back since you changed from CARES, but I have to say the new establishment is fabulous.

Took my boy here after he ingested raisins and chocolate in a bag of trail mix. The doctor, techs, and front desk staff were SO kind, and got him taken care of quickly and efficiently! They were very busy when we came in, and made time to give me quick updates so that I knew he was ok in the treatment area. It was nice to know that everyone genuinely cared. The doctor was very informative, gave me all of my options, and explained all of the treatments well and made me feel like I was making informed decisions. I want to address some of the comments I read regarding costs of service and lack of communication regarding the bill and estimates. I was told over the phone when I called ahead what the cost to be seen as an emergency case was, so I could be prepared. I knew it would be more expensive than a regular visit, and when the doctor came in to review my boy's treatment plan I requested an estimate which they provided without hesitation. Also, the staff did NOT make me feel embarrassed or badly for asking ahead of time for the costs of services. They also provided options since Torque doesn't have accident insurance for ways to pay in the event I was unable to afford care, I didn't even need to ask! Everyone was very informative and supportive in making sure that my dog received the best care possible. If you are worried about cost, ask ahead of time! The staff is professional and very caring! I hopefully won't need to utilize their emergency services too often in the future, but if I need to, I will 100% go back. Thank you again doctors, techs, and staff at Blue Pearl! My boy is happy and healthy again thanks to you!!

Truly a wonderful experience. It's very difficult when your furry family member doesn't feel well. The staff was wonderful and helped get my dog better. As well as making my daughter and I feel we made the right decision taking him there for his care.

If I could give this "hospital" a 0 rating I would. We brought our cat jack in a couple months ago due to a urinary obstruction. They charged us $4,000 for lab work, catheters (which dislodged overnight) and 2 overnight stays. Our cat died within a week so clearly he was too far gone. They could've told us that nothing would've helped him and just let us put him down without taking all of our money... My cousin also took her cat in for a bladder obstruction and they were going to charge her $7,000-$9,000 for the surgery on her 8 month old cat. She called around to see if she could find a better price and there were 3 other veterinarians in the area that would do the same surgery for $1500. This place is a money pit. Do not go here... The staff is friendly but they will take all of your money to not even help your pet. BluePearl is a disgrace.
