How to Save Money at Sigler Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First visit since new staff n veterinarian, what a refreshing experience. The decor , new vibes, new everything! I was skeptical seeing a new vet , but I have to say I really loved her and so did my dog. She’s very caring and thorough. The techs were amazing loving and my pet who normally had a hard time with people took to them. Although the wait was long even with an appointment, I couldn’t be more happy and neither could my dog . Thank you everyone there:)

My fiance and I are new puppy owners and were very upset when we accidentally nipped our puppy when cutting his nails. We took him in on Black Friday and the vet tech was so incredibly sweet. They took care of him and gave us great instructions for the future. At the end, they didn't even charge us for the visit. They gave us great piece of mind and were exactly what we needed in that moment.

Last time I took my cat there to get blood testing for his diabetes, they said the vet would call me with his new dosage. Never did. Call two weeks ago to get a refill on his insulin. Was told someone would call me back when I could pick it up. A week goes by with no return call. They really need to get their business together. How can we trust them with our family members with this poor service. If it was their pet. They would expect better service.

Usually never post reviews online but this place is absolutely terrible. I hate writing this because they have two vets and they are brothers. One is very very good while the other one is completely lousy. It all started in December when I had to put my dog down due to her old age and constant seizures. It was the hardest thing I had to do and I insisted on staying with her while the procedure went on because I could not leave her alone. The vet I dealt with was the lousy one and he was very impatient with how long the sedatives were taking. He pretty much forced the lethal injection in her even though she wasn’t completely asleep and I had to watch her struggle. The most traumatizing experience of my life. Still I decided to give them another chance due to their low prices. Flash forward 6 months and I got another puppy. The lousy vet saw me once again and when I got his last round of vaccinations they told me I would have to get another rabies shot the day he got fixed (Uhhh... no other vet agrees that he needed another rabies shot a month after receiving his shot). My puppy is four pounds and all the shots they gave him put him in such pain that he was paralyzed for 24 hours. The vet’s solution? Give him another shot. It was horrible. But it gets worse. The day before my dog was supposed to get fixed I call the vet to ask about what I should do to prepare my dog before the procedure. They then told me that they had been trying to call to reschedule. I told them that no one in my family received a call and that since this is the first time I’m hearing of this I would like them to honor the time they scheduled me for and the lady on the phone agreed. She rudely answered the questions I had and hung up. The next day my brother drove over to drop off my dog and they told him they couldn’t do the operation today because the vet wasn’t coming in today. Excuse me? Even after that phone call I had the day before and the receptionist said it could still work even though they claimed to try and reschedule?! I called them and they kept claiming that they tried to call but I said no you did not and that I’m not a liar and I called the day before and they confirmed the surgery would still continue. There was no apology and she said that her office manager would call later that day to talk about what happened. I never received a call. The staff is lazy, rude, and lost a client that day. I picked up my dog’s file that day and am now going to One of a Kind to continue with my dog’s surgery. I feel bad because they do have one good vet but until they completely fire and restaff the entire place and keep the one good vet there, I will not be back.

Took my dog here to be euthanized this am. The actual procedure was quick and peaceful. The staff who greeted us was sweet and very compassionate. The doctor however, ZERO compassion and bedside manner. He didn't even introduce himself. He walked in, asked me to step aside so he could given my dog 2 injections and said he would be back in ten min. He came back, asked me to move out of his way, placed the IV and then gave my dog the final medication. He waited a minute, listened and said "I don't hear a heartbeat." ZERO bedside manner. Never apologized, never explained what he was doing. The price of the procedure was fairly inexpensive for the area however, you get what you pay for. This made the trauma from losing our sweet dog that much worse. NEVER again.
