How to Save Money at Animal Clinic of New York

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have always taken my fur babies to this clinic for health check-ups, vaccinations, and more. Dr. Lily and her team have been caring for my pets for over 20 years. Recently, I called to confirm an appointment for my fur baby today and to remind my daughter of the time. However, I received a message indicating there is new ownership, which has left me confused and saddened. If this is indeed true, I have not been informed by anyone. I sincerely hope this is not the case and that Dr. Lily is still there.

Animal Clinic of New York gives off a really comforting and reliable vibe — definitely feels like a place that understands the bond between pets and their families. Love how local and approachable it feels! One small thought — with so many people searching online these days, having even a simple website can help showcase the great work you’re already doing. Just makes it easier for folks to find info quickly and stay connected. (As someone who works in web development, I often notice little things like that — hope it’s okay to share the thought!)

One star. I don’t usually write reviews, but after my recent experience at The Animal Clinic of NY, I feel it’s important to speak up—especially when it comes to the care of our pets. The woman in charge at this clinic, the boss, was shockingly rude, cold, and dismissive—not just to me, but to others I observed while waiting. She treated me like an inconvenience and showed absolutely no compassion or concern for my pet, who was clearly in distress. Her lack of professionalism and empathy made an already stressful situation feel even worse. Honestly, if it weren’t for Brianna and Denise, I would have never returned. These two women were the only bright spot in the entire experience. They showed genuine kindness, patience, and concern—not only for my pet but for me as well. They went out of their way to explain things, comfort me, and make sure my animal received proper attention. It’s truly unfortunate that someone in a leadership position can behave so poorly and yet still be allowed to represent the clinic. If it weren’t for Brianna and Denise, I would have completely lost faith in this place. They’re the only reason I gave the clinic a second chance—and they’re the only reason I would ever consider coming back. Management needs a serious change, because no pet owner should have to deal with that kind of disrespect and indifference—especially when their pet’s health is on the line.

I cannot say enough about the kindness and care of Dr. Doloroso and her staff. A freak emergency brought my dog and me in this morning, with no appointment—as new patients, no less. The team quickly got us checked in, did a thorough exam, and even got us set up to get records from our other vet. The level of compassion and patience—and a positive report—left me able to walk home with a sense of relief. We will be back, hopefully under much less dramatic circumstances. Thank you!!!

One star. Let me just say this — if it wasn’t for Brianna and Denise, I’d never step foot in The Animal Clinic of NY again. The boss there? Straight-up rude. No people skills, no empathy, and honestly acts like she doesn’t even wanna be there. This isn’t a deli counter — it’s a place where people bring their pets, their family. You expect a little compassion, not attitude and cold stares. Same goes for Abby, who’s just as nasty and unprofessional. The way they talk to people is beyond disrespectful — like you’re wasting their time just for needing help. But then you meet Brianna and Denise — total lifesavers. They’re the only ones who actually care, who actually take the time to be kind and helpful. They made me feel heard and, more importantly, they treated my pet like he mattered. They’re calm, professional, and genuinely good people in a place that really needs more of that energy. If management doesn’t see that Brianna and Denise are holding this place together, they’re not paying attention. Everyone else needs some serious customer service training—or better yet, should consider another line of work.
