How to Save Money at West Market Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been going to this vet for roughly a year and a half - two years now. Not only is this place such a positive drastic change from our previous vet, but their true care for animals is immeasurable. We recently had to put down our elderly cat after only having her for a few years. They were so helpful during that time and I recently received (attached below) a sweet handwritten card from them. They are also so kind to our gentle giants (great danes) who have typically not loved going to the vet in the past. They make each visit a good experience versus a stressful one. Truly a one of a kind place.

I had to take my cat to west market veterinary hospital since he had been sick for 2-3 weeks, I had already taken him to a vet and they gave him medicines and an antibiotic but for some reason it didn't work. He wasn't eating, nor playing with his sister and most of the time he would just sleep, I was so worried that I got to think the worst situation, fortunately they helped me here. They examined him and gave him medicines to help him cope with the infection he had, he got better in no time. I am so grateful with all the vets in here since they treat us so well and they helped my kitty to get better. The rooms are clean and appropriate for the animals to get checked, and all of them are true professionals 🥰 100% recommended!

The staff is very knowledgeable and my 2pups love coming here. I've never seen, out of all the times I've been here with my babies, a dog or cat scared to walk inside of the doors. I love that I can drop my pups off before work and pick them up after work and if there's any issues or concerns that they'll call me while I'm working. Prices are very reasonable. I'd recommend to anyone

This is a long overdue review, but I highly recommend this practice. The vets are amazing, I trust them 100%. They genuinely seem to care about our fur babies, they take time to explain everything and communicate, and just overall they really seem to care and do everything they can to assess and treat. The staff has also been great, they are always friendly and helpful. A notable recent experience: we recently found a kitten that was hit by a car. It was a weekday and luckily they were able to see her then. They have been so wonderful, kind, and attentive to her. We decided to keep her and truly appreciate all of the work they have done (and are still doing) to care for her. I highly, highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for a good vet!

I recently moved to Greensboro, and my dog had a medical emergency. After receiving care at an emergency clinic, I needed to find a vet for follow up. Every on I called could not see a new patient for a month or more. Then I called West Market Veterinary Hospital. They got Luna in just a few days later. They were terrific. The visit was thorough and compassionate. Everyone from the reception dest to the techs to the doctor were considerate, kind and friendly. They are now Luna's vet, and I would recommend them to anyone.
