How to Save Money at Affordable Veterinary Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They handled my 3 week kittens with amazing care and the doctor was very knowledgeable & sweet !! Brooklyn at the front desk was very kind and the prices are DEFINITELY affordable! $418 for 3 kittens exams with blood work & medication was phenomenal -- I'm used to paying that for ONE cat! Thank you guys! 🙏🏻😻

We have taken our dog here multiple times. Each time there was something that was less than desirable about the visit. Recently our dog became ill. We had taken her in to find out the cause. They blew off my concerns and decided to treat her for a possible infection and did blood work. Scheduled an appointment for a week later. Brought her back to the follow-up appointment and they took her blood again. Once they drew her blood they came back in 10 minutes later to take it again because “her blood looked funny”. Without wearing gloves or anything as well. Found out her condition was not getting any better from the previous week. When we were leaving, the tech who took her blood poked her head in the room and stated “that if anything were to happen to her tomorrow it would be best to take her to an emergency vet”. Well, the next day (7/4/25) our dog was doing way worse and we in fact had to take her to an emergency vet and we sadly had to put her down. So, my question is this; what exactly did they know or suspect without saying what they knew or suspected? It seemed they didn’t want to be bothered due to the upcoming holiday. I called this office to cancel her follow up and the male who answered the phone hung up on me after I stated that she wouldn’t be coming in because she had passed. They then proceeded to call again 2 days later to see how she was doing and I had to again explain that she wouldn’t be coming in. I requested the vet to call me as I had questions since we had spent over $1000 the week prior. It has been a week and a half and still no call. This office is very unprofessional. Customer service is not a priority and it seems as though it’s a money grab and they can never give any kind of answer as to anything in regards to your pet. If I could give a negative star rating I would.

They saved my dogs life. They go out of their way to help you and make you feel comfortable. Any staff member that I have met with has always been very kind and helpful. They appear to be genuine animal lovers. I wish I could rate them a 10!

We've been taking our pets here for years! Our 120lb boxer/ hound mix was having horrible violent seizures. Sometimes 3x a day! We assumed she was nearing the end of her life. The vets here, properly diagnosed her and put her on a script and she's doing just fine. She's only had a handful of light seizures in the past 2 years. She's going on 10 years old. She's the only dog left alive from her litter! Thank you AVC for saving our Puppy!!

This is a little bit of a late review but we’ve use Affordable with our dog Stormy her entire life. Stormy had an inoperable tumor on her skull and when it was her time, the vets and vet techs were the absolute best. They were completely compassionate and professional. One of the vet techs (I’m terrible with names) remembered Stormy and cried with us. We were a mess and they walked us through everything and gave us the time we needed. They were wonderful. Even a few weeks later, we received a condolence card from Affordable signed by those who helped us. We will never forget the kindness and sincerity. Thank you so much.
