How to Save Money at Tisdale Animal Hospital Emergency & Wellness Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Awesome doctor and staff! They were the only vet in the area that could take our dog’s case on short notice, and they made us feel so welcome and cared for. The facility is beautiful, and the pricing was very reasonable. The doctor called us personally to talk through all our options, and treatment was administered promptly. Thank you all SO much for your compassionate care!

Tisdale animal hospital is so amazing. I am so glad I brought my dog here. They were prompt and communicated well with me before and after. The staff and veterinarian are so kind. It was a worry-free experience for me and I appreciate that. It was a Saturday night when my dog got bit by a dog in the neighborhood & this emergency required stitches. I did not worry at all anymore once I dropped my dog off here. They have the most wonderful staff, sorry I did not get the girl at the front desk name, but she was so kind and had a great attitude which put me at ease. They took my dog back right away and explained the entire process and kept me informed the whole time. I just want to say that this is probably the best veterinarian customer service I have ever received. I love my golden retrievers and they are my children so this level of service means a lot to me. So beyond thankful and I would bring my dog(s) back here. I would also like to note that for an urgent need like ours, prices are great compared to what I’ve previously been charged at MetroVet, Banfield, or Blue Pearl for similar pet emergencies in the past. Also, this place is very cute.

My wife and I got home from work to find Coco with swelling around her anal area and running a fever. Of course all the vets were closed at this time so a search led us to Dr Tisdale. Coco is a 12 yo Shih Tzu who has suffered the past few years with Cushings Disease, lost her hearing and one eye. The staff were great checking Coco in and Dr. Tisdale sedated her and surgically addressed the infection and sent her home with meds. Within a day Coco was doing much better and after a few days Coco was doing very well. A very BIG thank you to everyone at Tisdale Animal Hospital.

What an absolutely wonderful vet!! Do not hesitate to trust Dr Tisdale with your fur baby(s)! When every vet around us was booked or closed on a Saturday for our emergency situation, Dr Tisdale did not hesitate and found an an immediate opening for us. The staff and their care are top notch and we will never go to another vet as long as we live in the area.

My 8 year old miniature Schnauzer was having an allergic reaction to something, bug allergies from the time of year etc. Our vet said to give her a Benadryl but after 2 hours she was so uncomfortable we knew she need some better relief from an injectable medication vice just otc Benadryl. The office is super clean and has a coffee station and some candies if you want one. Dr. Tisdale is awesome with her care of your animals. I would fully recommend this emergency animal hospital over some of the others we have gone to in the past. Much more personable than the other two on this side of the town that we have used in the past. They did fine don’t get me wrong, but this hospital is not as big . When Dr. Tisdale called with the treatment plan she is great at explaining everything and will definitely allow you to decide how to move forward, she is truly awesome!! Thank you Dr. Tisdale and your team!!!
