How to Save Money at Fauna Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Fauna did an excellent job at evaluating my kitty, Goose, for a dental cleaning, then promptly scheduling the actual service within 1 week! Keith and Dr John were comprehensive in hearing my concerns, explaining their diagnosis, and presenting options for care! Each step was broken down to let me understand what was going to happen and what our choices were. We had pre-op blood work done in the same visit to do the eval of Goose's teeth. All costs were outlined to me and I had several opportunities to ask questions or discuss other options. Because I booked his cleaning within 30 days of his pre-op visit, I received 10% off!!! Awesome perk!! During the day of Goose's cleaning, I was able to opt into text updates which let me know when he went under anesthesia and when he woke up! This was awesome for me and made me feel much more at ease about having my boy gone all day. Dr John called me personally to give an update on the procedure, and answered many questions for me! I felt like all the staff cared for me and my cat just like they would care for their family / own pets. I intend to switch over all of my cats to Fauna as a primary vet. FVC is easy to schedule with, clear with diagnosis and treatment, very reasonably priced, and just truly staffed with awesome humans. You can trust FVC with your fur babies! I certainly do!

Highly recommend! They took excellent care of my cat Pickles. Everyone who works here is so caring and kind. Everyone was super knowledgeable too, I always knew that Pickes and I were in excellent hands. They were very upfront and clear about cost (I always knew what things would cost before they did them), and the pricing for services was very reasonable. When Pickles health declined and he eventually passed away at 17, everyone here was so kind, caring, and amazing during and after. This is the veterinary office that I recommend to all my family and friends. Fauna will forever be my veterinary care for all of my pets

After a few years away from the vet, I had such a great experience with Dr. John and his team. From the first phone call, they were upfront about pricing, which I really appreciated and don’t see often with vet offices. I was also genuinely surprised when they offered to pull my dog’s previous records for me. They listened to my concerns, talked things through with me, and helped find a solution I felt good about. I left feeling really supported, and this will definitely be my new primary vet moving forward.

SUCH a kind and gentle staff, I love them! Their prices are extremely fair, the lowest in my area, and the facility is always clean. My cat has gone here twice since I've had him, and both times we've had great experiences. They always give through insight about what they're doing and tell you promptly if there is a service that's isn't necessary so it doesn't get added to your bill. I can't recommend Fauna enough. 🩷

I recently brought my shih tzu in because she’d developed some bumps over the last few months that had me worried. The staff and vets were incredibly kind, reassuring, and patient—they eased my anxiety right away. Thankfully, the bumps turned out to be nothing more than clogged pores/acne. They sent us home with a simple fish oil supplement, and I’ve already seen a noticeable reduction in the bumps. Plus, her coat has never felt silkier! What I appreciate most is that Fauna Veterinary Care didn’t push unnecessary tests or procedures. At other clinics, I’ve often left feeling more stressed than when I arrived, along with a much bigger bill. FVC was honest, thoughtful, and truly focused on what my dog actually needed. We’re new to the neighborhood, and I’m so relieved to have found a vet we trust. FVC will definitely be our primary clinic going forward.
