How to Save Money at Delta Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Doctor Leslie is the best. She is so knowledgeable and caring. She and her team are thorough in explaining the issues related to your pet. The prices at this hospital are fair and related to the needs of the animal, especially as it relates to emergency care. Just come here - you'll go home with everything you need to continue to hug your pet every-single-day!!!!!

I have had cats, and two dogs, throughout my life. Almost every one was treated at Delta Animal Hospital. Early on, we worked with Dr. Joseph Luka, later with his daughter Leslie. Both are wonderful veterinarians, and remarkably good at diagnosing illnesses other vets seem to miss. We have had to have 3 cats euthanized at the end of their lie, and they did so with a heavy heart and a lot of compassion. More important was how healthy they kept our cats throughout their lives. Their prices are far more reasonable than all the other vets around, perhaps, in part, because you aren't paying for all the fancy office space. Bring your patience, because being a walkin hospital, they can get extremely busy. I recently paid $50 for an examination of my sick cat, having spent $104 at Bond Vet the previous day, where the doctor totally missed an ear infection. The estimate at Bond came out to just over $1,000 for initial treatment and blood tests. I spent a total of $270 at Delta Animal Hospital with Dr. Leslie. I have also had bad experiences at VCA Animal Hospitals. The misdiagnosed my cat with an ear infection and missed a brain tumour. $7,000 later our cat needlessly suffered for months and we had to euthanize him at Village West Veterinary. It was horrible. Thank you to Dr. Leslie, her dad, Dr. Luka and the staff at Delta for all you do. Hopefully we can get our cat back to full health.

Dr Lesile Kuka provided treatment for two cats we had adopted from Chicago Animal Care and Control who were suffering an upper respiratory infection. Service is affordable and the cats have recovered from their illness. Susie who works the front desk is great and so caring and considerate. The office is bare bones and not the most comfortable, but this helps keep costs down for quality care.

I am absolutely devastated tonight! I called this place and spoke to a young lady who told me that I could bring my sick and dying cat to the clinic as long as I was there by 2:10pm and I agreed since I live 4 minutes away. I arrived and the door was locked so my aunt called the clinic back to ask then to open the door and a different woman answered the phone, and she knew it was someone that she did not speak to earlier because this woman had a heavy accent. She was extremely rude to my aunt and when I walked in I heard her on the phone with my aunt. So I told her I was the person regarding that call. She hung up and as I sat down with my severely ill cat wrapped up this woman came all the way to the door and told me to get up and close the door, I didn't realize I left it cracked open, but this woman literally stood by the door and told me to get up and close the door! She already had hollered at me saying there are people ahead of me which was understood because we called last minute and were grateful for being taken in. I went home since I was humiliated and treated so awful and my cat died at home an hour later! This woman should be ashamed of herself. I am so confused on why this woman with ZERO empathy is employed at this place. Absolutely horrible and devastating experience here!!! Horrible place absolutely awful experience

Normal clinic. We have been here many times, brushed the teeth of several animals and cats came several times due to illness. Everything went well. The cat recovered after taking and treating. Maybe the interior is not very pleasant and smells, but this justifies the adequate prices for treatment.
