How to Save Money at Bond Vet - West Loop

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I initially switched to Bond Vet because the vet office I was using in the neighborhood often didn’t have availability for weeks for treatments that only require a tech visit (some vaccines, anal gland expression). The staff at Bond are compassionate, knowledgeable, and I often times can get a same day or next day visit. My dog recently had to have a procedure done and Dr. Burke and Dakota took great care of him. The office is bright and clean and my dogs love their treats on the way out. So glad I made the switch to Bond Vet!

Vino my Goldendoodle and I love bond vet! They are over the top accommodating with their hours and we get the very best care every time! They make both my pets and I feel comfortable and give us the best advice and care. We have 3 dogs who visit Bon Vet. Cuddles, Vino and Valentino!

Very clean and well kept, we walked right in and were seen! Such an amazing visit. They loved my baby from the moment we walked in until we left. I will absolutely be back!

I want to start by saying my 2 star review is not reflective of Dr.Burke at all! Dr.Burke has been amazing for us & our dogs and is 5 stars. We’ve been going to Bond Vet West Loop since we moved to Chicago in March. We’ve brought both of our German Shepherds to see Dr.Burke and she’s been amazing with their care. My concern comes with our appointment we had with our younger German Shepherd a couple days ago. Dr.Burke was not in office & a vet by the name of Dr.Lautenschlager was working. Our appointment was scheduled for what looked to be an ear infection & a few other concerns we had. The appointment started with the tech telling my fiancé that he was going to have to swab my dog’s ears rather than her doing it.. we obviously aren’t vets or vet techs so we don’t know how to appropriately do this & the swabs didn’t get much of anything on them to be tested. I’m unsure why she made him do it as our dog was not aggressive by any means & allowed her to touch/pet him all over. We've also been to multiple appointments with this tech & never had any issues. The vet tech then leaves the room to take the swabs for testing & informs us that the vet filling in for the day is afraid of big dogs. Extremely odd.. The vet then comes in the room & says the ear test didn’t show any infection. Not surprising since they made my fiancé swab his ears who didn’t know what he was doing rather than the actual vet tech who works there. The vet was also super jumpy the whole time with our pup & seemed uncomfortable the entire visit. If the vet truly is afraid of big dogs then he shouldn’t be working with big dogs. We had a few concerns we had mentioned to both the vet tech & vet that were not addressed at all and were told that we needed to make an appointment for each individual concern or item that we wanted to talk about. You’re telling me our $104 “consultation” visit fee didn’t allow us to ask additional questions? This was the most odd & disappointing appointment we’ve had since coming here.

We had such a great experience at BondVet for my puppy’s first check-up! The staff was incredibly kind and gentle, making sure my pup felt safe and comfortable the whole time. They answered all my questions and made us feel so welcomed. We even got a cute goodie bag filled with treats and puppy essentials—such a thoughtful touch! Highly recommend for any pet parent looking for a vet who truly cares. 🐾💙
