How to Save Money at Dr. Bob Irelan's Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Changed a few months ago and am extremely happy here. Everyone is compassionate with our senior dachshund. We have a few times needed service at the last minute and are always accommodating. As you can see, our little George is happy also!

I am thoroughly impressed with the service I have received from this veterinary clinic. The staff's kindness, patience, and understanding, particularly with my puppies, have been amazing. I still remember the day Dr. Irelan passed away and would like to offer my condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. The addition of the new veterinarian has been a valuable asset. She is amazing! Thank you for your outstanding dedication to providing exceptional animal care.

KIM IS AN ANGEL! This is a nurse there, and she is made for work woth pets. Patient and kind, she seated on the floor to be anle to examined our dog that sufffers with anxiety. We tried at least 5 other places before and it was the only place he was able to be treated. We are glad and thankful! Thank you Kim and Dr Deborah you both did an amazing job! God bless you!

I took my cats there the other day and we were told if it was a walk-in appointment we would be charged $30 extra, that was fine.. what we were not told was that even though we were going to be charged extra we were still waiting for every other person who had an appointment which is completely understandable however they left us in a room to wait for over 2 hours and would occasionally pop their head in just to let us know there were still three to four people ahead of us. We left without any services done because that is the most unprofessional and inappropriate service I have ever received. It is one thing for a situation to occur and for them to understandably tell us we would need to come back a separate day when there was more time for a walk-in appointment. What is unprofessional and unacceptable is to continuously tell us that there is more people ahead of us and tell us that they don't know when they will see us while they know our pets are suffering and in distress. I will never ever recommend this vet place to anybody again. in fact I honestly don't think that the people employed there should work there anymore because they don't have good customer service skills. I'm sure they are nice people when they are not at work but when they are working they have no idea what they're doing. I have worked in customer service for over 10 years and I can tell you I would never treat a customer who was paying extra money like that. They seemed sympathetic and remorse will only after I yelled at them for making my pets wait for over 2 hours and mind you my mother has health conditions and we were left in a room to just wait and sit. No explanation aside from "the doctor was in surgery" ok that's understandable that happens I hope the pet is okay but at the end of the day we were paying customers that got left with no explanation as to why we got unacceptable and inappropriate service. Once again all they would have had to do was tell us that today was not a good day for a walk-in but they didn't care that our pets were suffering they didn't care that we had things to do all they cared about was that they wanted to get that extra money. If there is such a good vet service and they have so many good reputable reviews you would think they were in good enough standing that they wouldn't need an extra $100 or $200 from somebody. But apparently they're so money hungry they needed us to wait those 3 hours with no explanation and no services. I have never received this kind of treatment in my life out of it Nor any type of office or professional establishment and I just want to warn everybody that unless you have an appointment I would not be going there. It is totally understandable for them to be busy but what is not understandable is that they did not let us know any of this until after we had already been waiting for over 2 hours. Our two cats were in distress and pain the entire time for us to have to leave to make an appointment days later because unfortunately as many of you also do I have a job and had to work that day. Hence the walk-in appointment. I can understand business and other appointments come first but not when we are being charged extra and being told we would get seen immediately. Highly disappointed and just overall upset my babies suffered longer than they needed to because of negligence of staff.

Every one was so nice and kind to us and our fur baby. I am so glad that Dr. Bob Irelan's Veterinary Services was recommended to us. We are new to the area and didn’t know where to take my girl. We definitely found the perfect place for all of us
