How to Save Money at Cat Clinic of Fernandina

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We bring our cats to CCF, because they are just great with cats. Dr. M., is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and our cat, Spot, really likes her, which is very important. This hospital, is one of the cleanest I’ve been too, and I’m a Jersey girl, and I’m picky. Love all the sweet techs, and receptionists as well. They are just a wonderful animal hospital.

I cannot say enough good things about The Cat Clinic of Fernandina. A month ago my sweet 17 year old cat fell ill and after spending a fortune at the local emergency vet, we still didn’t have answers. I called the cat clinic and told them what was going on and they got my girl in within a few days, spent a good amount of time with us, handled my girl so well, and gave Lucy a shot and said to come back in a month. That shot gave us another few weeks with my kitty and the visit was also were very affordable. Yesterday I called them at opening because Lucy had declined dramatically. They said, we have a full schedule but bring her in and we will examine her as soon as we can. A few hours late the Dr. called said that they were as concerned as I was. They could run the diagnostics, do all the tests, but likely the outcome would be the same. My girl was dying. They offered for me to come in and have her euthanized there with them, they would handle the cremation and I was shocked at the affordability of the whole process as the places I had researched were hundreds of dollars more for these services. They were very compassionate, patient, let us have the time we needed with her, let my children come in and say goodbye, they shaved some hair for me to keep and worked very hard to get a decent paw print after her passing. I would recommend The Cat Clinic of Fernandina to everyone.

We love this office. My furry baby, Angus, is a handful. He definitely lets you know when he's had enough but everybody here is extremely courteous and they know how to handle a big bruiser like Angus. From the time you walk in, until the time you walk out, you are treated like you and your furry baby are the only patients there. If you have a cat and you would rather have a group that specializes in only cats, then this is the office to go to.

I love this clinic. I just got off the phone with Stephanie about one of my cats and it dawned on me that I don't think I've ever left a review of this place! They are my current vet for all of my cats and I wouldn't want it any other way. My cats are all seniors, so there have been quite a few stressful experiences that the staff at Cat Clinic has been so diligent and careful towards handling. They tolerate my hysteria and craziness when I think one of my cats is going downhill, and I couldn't be more grateful to have such a generous, thorough, intelligent, caring and loving staff taking care of my babies! I've been using their clinic for over a decade. I used to hate the fact that they were closed on Tuesdays but honestly, I believe that's to prevent Dr. Mersereau from becoming burnt out and for that, I have no qualms. The prices are completely worth it too. She is the most thorough, competent, professional vet I have ever experienced, and her staff is just as amazing. I will always utilize their services and always recommend them to people. Love you, Cat Clinic!! ❣️
