How to Save Money at Amelia Island Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We adopted a cat that had serious heath issues. Dr. Jennifer took the best of care for our Toby. We finally had to put him down yesterday, the worst day my husband and I had to experience, but were comforted by Dr. Jen and her staff. They had done all that could be done and we were able to go and be with him before he passed. He rallied when we went to the back to be with him. We were able to be with him holding his little head and touching him and he calmed down immediately. After he was gone Dr. Jennifer brought him back to the room for us to spend as much time as we wanted. He was such a special little boy and my husband and I loved him so much! Our fur babies are just like your children and we know he is not suffering anymore. Thanks also to the front office staff who were always so kind and to Dr. Jennifer and all her clinical staff. Such a caring hospital💔💙

We have been with Amelia Island Animal Hospital for seven(7) years. We have always had a very positive experience there. The veterinarians, technicians and office staff are extremely knowledgeable, respectful, responsive and supportive. Every visit. When it came time to put our beloved dog to sleep the entire staff quietly came in to pay their respects to our sweet girl. We now have a new puppy. Our two (2) visits have gone smoothly. Our pup enjoys his visits as he is treated with so much joy and affection. We can’t imagine going anywhere else. ❤️🐾

Dr. Jen & her team are nothing short of amazing and wonderful! Very polite knowledgeable and helpful. Then there's Dr. Jen who after examining my older dachshund Agnes put her on meds for her thyroid. She's a z12yr old puppy now!!! Dr. Jen is so compassionate with the animals and knowledge she's even helped my friends with their exotic animals by referrals!!! She's The Best!!! I would never trust anyone else with my furry family members!!! LOVE Amelia Isn't Vet!!! Patients for life !!!! 👍💗💗💗☮️

There are simply not enough words to express how grateful we are to everyone at Amelia Island Animal Hospital. Having to say goodbye to our beloved dog was one of the hardest things we’ve ever faced. We arrived overwhelmed, heartbroken, and uncertain how we would get through it. From the moment we walked through the doors, every member of the staff welcomed us with such kindness, compassion, and genuine care. They treated our sweet boy with dignity and tenderness, and they treated us like family. In our time of deepest need, they provided comfort, patience, and support that we will never forget. Their compassion made an unbearable day just a little easier to bear. We truly believe these wonderful people were sent from above. Thank you for helping us say goodbye with love, grace, and peace. We will always be . ❤️🐾

I have had two of my pups both put down at 13 years old. I called Monday about my 18 year old cat, not asking $400 to give her a shot to put her to sleep and bring her home. They were amazing $110 more reasonable. I used to use the traveling vet, but will use them from here on out! Staff was so compassionate about losing our fur baby♥️🌞🌻
