How to Save Money at Doral Centre Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so grateful to have found this center; from the moment I arrived, they handled my emergency with speed and genuine compassion. The team was always attentive and ready to help, answering all my questions. I was able to visit my pet whenever I wanted and whenever I could. I am especially grateful to Dr. Rodriguez and Milly for their care, as well as the entire staff. Thank God my Lola is recovering, and we feel much more relieved.

Hi, my name is Signorino, and I’m a very grateful Goldendoodle! Thank you, Doctor Vega and Doctor Paola Vasquez, for giving me a new life and a new opportunity to enjoy every day to the fullest. Your knowledge, dedication, and compassionate care made all the difference in my journey to recovery. A very special thank you to my amazing nurse, Betsie. During my two days with you, you cared for me with so much love and kindness that I can honestly say we created a friendship for life. You made me feel safe, comfortable, and loved when I needed it most. I will never forget the wonderful care I received from all of you. Thank you for helping me wag my tail again and enjoy many more happy adventures ahead! With lots of love and gratitude, Signorino 🐶❤️

I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped my baby pass away in the most peaceful and painless way possible. We brought our dog in knowing he was in critical condition and that he would not be coming back home with us. Every person who cared for him and for us showed so much compassion, kindness, and patience during one of the hardest moments of our lives. The beautiful letter we received after getting his ashes brought tears to my eyes and meant more than words can express. Thank you for making one of the most painful days of our lives feel so meaningful and memorable. We will never forget the love and care you showed our family. Highly recommend ❤️

Has a terrible experience today here. Like most vets, they find a way to overcharge you any way the can. I have proof they don’t disclose prices before doing a procedure then try to charge you. Happened today with a $50 shot. Reason I came here is because I already put my dog down like 7 months ago at the old location of this hospital. Seems like moving to a bigger location means you need to inflate all your prices. They don’t care about about quality just volume, it’s clear. I don’t recommend. To start, Jackie was trying to charge me in the middle of the euthanasia while their flushing liquids through their veins. Not before or after but during .. super awkward. They didn’t bring in a bed after they gave her the loopy medicine so I had to sit on the floor for 40 min after waiting . Wait times have gotten longer . Last time I was here diagnosing my same dog they tried to get so much money out of me, and I waited over an hour in a room. So today when I go check out it’s 200$ more than euthanasia just 7 months prior. Also, I wait time wait too long . They moved location so now they’re just after your pockets. Monique tried to do quality control but it was too late. They also told me I bought a different package than my last dog that’s why it was different price, ended up being same package they just overcharged 200$ more dollars. Stay away. I know they have a large staff it’s unfortunate quality and care is not at the top do their list of priorities. Picture me on the floor cause they didn’t put her in table or elevated bed. I’m livid.

Zoey

I’ve been here with both my dogs and my cat throughout the years.. through their ER service, urgent care service, and having an appt for something simple. Each time they’ve been amazing. From the front desk, to the techs who have all been great especially Christina with my Zoey. I’ve seen several vets while there and they’ve all been awesome but Dr. Burke and most recently Dr.V who sent an email after the appointment with instructions on how to care for my dogs skin issue have been the best. Recently my dog had to stay overnight after a surgery, and they had someone send updates and pictures through text in the evening and early morning which was such a relief during my anxiety of having her hospitalized. I fully trust them with my babies and appreciate all they’ve done for them.
