How to Save Money at Westmonte Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had an 830am appointment we had made just the night before online. We were able to get help promptly the next morning when our dogs were sick. We have been coming here for years. Our dogs "almost enjoy" coming to the vet, even after they figure out where we are... we have also been here for shots and prevention type care. Always a good experience, we are always shown what something will cost before they do anything. The owner/vet is local and its the same smiling staff each time I go. Highly recommend it here. The picture is one of our dogs waiting for the vet to come back, tail wagging so fast you cant see it :)

Took my kitty in for the first time here and I was very pleased! The office was clean and smelt great unlike some places I’ve tried in the past. The receptionist was great and got us right in, same day, for my baby’s yearly shots and exam. The vet and vet tech were great as well! They took great care of my kitty cat and you can tell they genuinely care for the animals they treat. I’m happy to have found an awesome vet I can count on! I’ll be back here for all my kitty vet trips. :) -update 2 years later with a pic :)

My Akita has been coming here for years. Staff and Dr. are absolutely amazing. Everyone is so kind and caring. The building itself is very clean and always smells + looks great. My pup is not a people person but loves Dr. Matagrano.

I'm so happy I found Dr. Lisa! I moved to the area about 2 years ago and was looking for a new vet in the area for my senior dog at the time. He had some issues with allergies, food sensitives, and just being an senior. When he started going down hill she wasn't in a "rush" to tell me to put him down as other vets had in the past. She told us if he has the will to live, then we will keep trying. He had crippling arthritis right at the end as well as a slew of stomach issues. When the decision was made that it was his time, she sat with us the whole time while I asked every questions under the sun. She was with us the entire experience. She cried for us and for him. The whole staff were absolute angels in the toughest time for my family. Now, we take my rescue pitbull, whom everyone is normally so scared of, and she loves on him and he LOVES her. And now I bring my new puppy whom also is OBESSED with her and the entire staff. She really is an amazing vet and we have LOVED our time with her and can't wait to continue to bring all our fur babies to her

I took my 9 yr old Goldendoodle in because she was having a severe allergic reaction. Very concerned because she was no longer eating and throwing up at all hours. After I brought Molly in to get checked, Westmonte Animal Clinic was able to bring my girl back to good health!! A relief to see my dog happy not to be in pain.
