How to Save Money at The Cat Hospital of Orlando

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I took my cat to our regular vet in October and while holding her they felt the tiniest lump in one of her mammary glands. It ended up being a 1-cm low-grade cancerous mass and to be safe, they recommended a double mastectomy, which they could not perform themselves. I am so, so glad I then found the Cat Hospital of Orlando. I truly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Quest. From our first consult it was clear that she is extremely knowledgeable about this specific type of case and has performed many similar surgeries over the years. The techs were absolutely phenomenal and they made us feel like their most important patient at every visit. Even more impressive is seeing how comfortable my cat is there. They spoil her with Churus and she didn’t even want to go home after her suture removal! I will be recommending them to every cat owner I know.

Took my stepsons cat, Nova, herr bcus she got attacked by something that left a wound on her head between her eyes. The staff was very welcoming and reassuring. They took her right in. The vet was amazing. They fixed her up and sent us home with pain meds and an antibiotic. We set a follow-up appt for two weeks away. Nova did well. The meda worked, and she was as good as new. Highly recommend this cat hospital based on the staff and the work that they do. The only thing was the price. For the first appt, it ran a little less than $400 amd for the second appt it was a little less than $300. So they are pricey, but what vet isnt? Thank you Cat Hospital of Altamonte, for the work that you do!

We love Dr. Quest and she has been our vet for years. We followed her from another vet practice to The Cat Hospital of Orlando. She is so great with cats especially when they are difficult to handle when stressed. We love that she does house calls because it makes it less stressful for Luna (and previously Molly). It is nice that it is a cat only hospital where they specialize in cats and there are no dogs to stress the cats out. Everyone in the office is always very nice and takes the time to answer questions and concerns. Love this vet hospital! Mindy, Nick, & Luna ❤️

I chose this practice because of the great reviews and the fact that they specialize in cats, so I was really excited to bring my pet here. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to the veterinarians because the scheduling experience has been extremely frustrating. My first appointment was canceled the same day due to an issue with their occupancy license. They then offered and scheduled a home visit, but later tried to switch it to an office nearly 40 minutes away. When I said that wouldn’t work, they wouldn’t honor the home visit they originally offered. After three months of trying just to be seen, I’m going to a different office with a more organized and reliable team. It’s frustrating to be offered services that ultimately aren’t provided.

I wish I could find this kind of healthcare for myself! Over the last few years, the staff here, doctors and techs have helped me with two diabetic cats- one of which needed to be taken at an emergency vet facility. Despite the horrible experience of seeing my animals in rough shape, I don't want to know what it could've been like elsewhere. It was a long recovery for both Eddie and Emma (she's doing great) but I felt completely confident in the knowledge, care and honesty from office visits and phone call interactions. Eddie (my tuxedo) unfortunately had some other issues and my goodness! I cannot -can NOT- express enough gratitude for the genuine empathy and sincerest kindness shown/given to me through the experience of saying goodbye. Not only that, everything was explained to me; I could understand what was happening which I felt to be very comforting. I got to be with him the whole time and as long as I needed to afterwards. I have never been rushed, hurried or ignored. They are a busy location and the demand shows how well they care for our furry babies! My cats have always felt really calm and not freaked out during visits. Kimba is always a treat to see and love on as well. 🥰 Again, I wish I could find this kind of care for my own health. Thank you!
