How to Save Money at Beside Still Water

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It’s been several years, but Dr. Bradenberg really came through for us. Our 12 year old cat had lymphoma. Dr. B. spent a long time on the phone with me as I made my decision. She was so kind and gentle with me and my cat. It was hard to lose him, but she made his passing better. I always think of her with gratitude.

Dr. Ann Brandenberg-Schroeder provided excellent advice and grief counseling around the euthanasia of our 12 year old cat. He had lung cancer and had just been diagnosed after spending the night in urgent care. His breathing was labored, but his appetite was OK. "Dr. ABS" walked us through the process to make a decision as to whether or no- we should put him to sleep, what contingencies to make in case he went into respiratory distress, the euthanasia process. All in all she spent 45 minutes on the phone with us, walking us through ALL aspects of being a pet-owner faced with having to make the tough decision to put your best buddy down. She didn't do the actual euthanizing, only because she could only make an evening appointment the following evening. But I'm certain that had she performed the procedure, she would have been as caring and compassionate with a paying customer as she was with a total stranger facing this tough decision. We spoke to four or five prospective at-home euthanaisists, and while we loved her the most, we were concerned with having our little guy spending more than 24 hours in a state of labored breathing, so we had to cancel with her in favor of someone who could come the same day. I highly recommend having your pet euthanized at home by someone as compassionate as "Dr. ABS."

I wouldn't even give these people a star. We called because our dog is dieing, left a message when the woman called us back she was rude and not a pleasant person to speak with. She told me that they were all booked up never offered another day or maybe we can fit you in just straight up no we are all booked. Their was no sympathy for me or my dieing pet! I would not recommend going here or even letting them touch my dog, you wanna be rude I'll take my business to someone else who does care and will show sympathy for me and my pet.

I wish I could give Beside Still Water's zero stars but I can't. I called two and a half days ago, left a message and still have not heard back from this organization. I have decided to go with Caring Pathways who have been wonderful to work with. In a time of extreme grief, I think it is irresponsible to not get back with people when they are trying to decide the fate of their beloved pets.

We used this service a year ago to assist my 17 year old shepherd to pass on. The doctor was exceptionally informative and professional, and described each step of the process. I see that for some folks reviewing she did not respond in a timely fashion, however we we were not pressured for a certain time, and our experience could not have been better for such a difficult time. Highly recommend.
