How to Save Money at Purrfect Health Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don't think most people would wanna take their cat somewhere the staff blatantly lies. I called 12/19 to specifically ask if boarding was available to non clients, I was told yes its available, went through everything, cost, availability, how long, etc. Told them I'd call back after we confirm its the best option. Called 12/20, was told the complete opposite. Even spoke with the owner on the subject in early 24' and was told they offer to non-clients. Strange incident, would recommend literally anywhere else.

I DO NOT recommend this practice. My cat Mili Moo was diagnosed with diabetes in September. The vet recommended a new oral medication but because of the cost I asked if it was safe to try the RX diet first to see if that made a difference. It did slightly but after an episode of pancreatitis it should have been explained to me that medication was absolutely necessary. I brought her in for follow up, and regularly called with updates. Because Mili was not eating well I brought her in yesterday 10/31 to check glucose, BP and to see if she was constipated. She wasn’t but she was in a diabetic crisis. The substitute Vet that day was absolutely awful over the phone and made the assumption that I was not going to treat her diabetes. That was never the case, I only tried the diet first because of the cost that I was quoted. This vet even said I might as well euthanize her. I started to cry and became very upset. After this awful conversation, I decided to go pick Mili up and rush her to the hospital. She was in terrible condition. The substitute vet was going to give her insulin and send her home with me, if I had done that Mili would have died! Not only was this vets bedside manner and communication style awful, she never treated Mili the entire time she was in her care. At the very least she should have put her on IV fluids to transfer her to the ER. Mili was extremely dehydrated and very sick. It’s incredible I paid $310 for Mili to not be treated. I honestly think under the circumstances that visit should be refunded for the lack of care. The ER requested multiple times Milis records and the labs were not sent. The office had 2 hours to send records. When the ER reached back out, the office was closed. They had to repeat all the labs and this delayed her treatment as well. When Mili was initially diagnosed with diabetes, I was told by the doctor that the new oral medication was $100/mo but you have to pay for 3 months up front. That cost caused me to pause. I was told that it was the same price as insulin. This was not true. A vial of insulin is regularly $200/ vial and a vial lasts 4 months, the ER vet confirmed. Insulin has gone down from that regular price. Long acting insulin today was $77/ vial and with a coupon it’s $35/ vial. That is a big difference. I feel that the vet at Purrfect Health was dishonest. It resulted in delayed treatment and now a hospitalization. She needed treatment sooner. I did not realize that insulin was affordable and I was not aware of the dangers of not treating quickly. Now my cat has an ER bill of 4k. Let’s pray she makes it. Whatever you do, do not trust Purrfect Health Cat Hospital.

We adopted our two cats from a shelter last year and decided to take them to Purrfect Health Cat hospital for a wellness checkup. We immediately loved the staff and doctor that worked there. They are very kind and knowledgeable. One of our cats is very shy and they did a great job handling her with care. I highly recommend making this place your primary care.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Took my baby, Chip in this morning for mass on his back foot pad and Dr. Holmes and her techs were awesome. Very caring, professional and explained everything in great detail. My cats health is VERY important to me and they could not have done a better job. I have finally found the "perfect" vet for all my kids needs. THANK YOU!

i dont like to leave bad reviews, but i think it's important for pet parents to be informed of all aspects. the good is that i believe the vet is very knowledgable, and did a good job in diagnosing my cat's cancer. the bad? they are very rough with the cats. my cat is a very gentle senior girl. they scruffed her as soon as they started despite her being her gentle self. they scared her so bad she hissed at them and tried to run away. a behavior ive never seen her do. i know literature says to step away from scruffing cats. i hope this vet does so. esp when a cat is being compliant and gentle.
