How to Save Money at TAGS Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just want to take a moment to share how grateful I am for the team at TAGS Surgical. Today my little terrier Baby had her dental cleaning and extractions, and like any dog mom, I was very nervous dropping her off. The staff immediately put me at ease. They were kind, patient, and clearly very experienced with small dogs and anxious owners. Baby had a twilight dental procedure, and the entire process was handled with so much care and professionalism. The team communicated clearly, explained everything, and treated Baby like she was their own. What impressed me the most was how smoothly everything went. When I picked her up, she was alert, comfortable, and already recovering beautifully. She’s now home, playful and doing so well, which is the best feeling in the world. Dental health is so important for our pets, and it can be scary to put them under sedation. The TAGS team made the entire experience feel safe and reassuring from start to finish. If anyone is looking for a place that truly cares about animals and treats them with compassion and expertise, I highly recommend TAGS Surgical. Thank you for taking such good care of my sweet Baby. 🐾

So grateful Dr Nastro was able to help this lil rescue pup that I have grown to love so much. He's nice and still very relaxed missing a lil growth that was sure to be painfully injured by a haircut or combing. Extremely sincerely grateful.

Tags is an awesome place to take your pet! Dr. Nastro and the staff are very friendly…. I made an appointment and took my little dog Pepe there to get his teeth cleaned as he had horrific breath and needed it done. Dr Nastro greeted me when I dropped Pepe off and we chatted about the issue and what he was going to do. When I returned Dr. Nastro handed Pepe to me and went through how things went. He informed me on how to give the meds as he needed 4 teeth removed. This would have cost me over a thousand dollars+ at any veterinary office. There are no hidden fees at Tags, the cost was exactly what you see in their pricing. I’ve already recommended Tags to family and friends, and will continue to do so with any animal owner. I’ll definitely be back to update his vaccinations and continue teeth cleaning. Thank you Dr Nastro and staff!! Your friendly and caring ways are so appreciated !!!

My dog had his teeth cleaned at TAGS. Prior to the procedure, information was shared electronically. Check in was quick and friendly. Mid day I received a text my pup was good and when I could pick him up. Cost was amazing, two thirds less than was quoted by the local vet! When I picked up my dog he was happy.

Got my dogs shots here and they are very friendly and helpful. They just quoted me about $1400 less then the vet hospital to do my dogs teeth deep cleaning. It feels so good to have a clinic that isn’t in it for just the money, it seems they genuinely care about the animals well being as well as not breaking the owners bank! So happy with my experience here so far and will definitely be recommending them to all my friends!
