How to Save Money at Olympic Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hands down, Dr. Lucia and Dr. Eric are some of the most caring and professional vets I’ve ever met! They were so kind and patient with our little Mocha who, to be honest, gets super nervous around strangers and vet visits. Both doctors took their time to answer every single question we had and made sure Mocha felt safe the entire time. Their gentle approach truly helped him relax . I could actually see him tail start wagging again by the end of the visit! 🥹 What I really love about this clinic is that they focus on what truly matters. No unnecessary tests, no “let’s do everything just in case” attitude . just honest, thoughtful, and professional care. It’s so refreshing to meet vets who genuinely care more about the pet than the profit. If your fur baby gets anxious like Mocha, this is the place to go. I trust Dr. Lucia and Dr. Eric completely they’re simply the best! 💕🐶

This vet clinic is way better than a national chain. My dog was misdiagnosed on a Saturday with pancreatitis at a national veterinary chain company, with that vet insisting she needed to be hospitalized for 3 to 4 days, minimum cost $5000. I love my dog dearly, but she is quite elderly, has major spinal issues and dementia problems, and she needs to constantly be with me or she stresses. Putting her in hospital would break her. That vet acted as if I were a horrible human. Worse, though that vet prescribed pain medication for her, he didn’t give his required vet code. Since it was a controlled substance, the pharmacy wouldn’t give it to me. So though he went on about how intense her pain was, he made it impossible for her to get the pain reliever he insisted she needed! Thank goodness Olympic Pet Hospital was recommended to me: They got me in at 10 AM on a Monday holiday! Dr. Lucia Kwon was kind and diligent. She truly listened to me. Not only did she prescribe an effective non-controlled substance but she made sure it would help with my dog’s spinal and nerve pain. When she discovered I had given a friend’s cat subcutaneous IV daily, she assured me I could do the same for my dog if her condition deteriorated and she needed help with fluids. That way, I wouldn’t have to hospitalize her if things got worse. I cannot speak more highly of this woman — knowledgable, thoughtful, gentle with my baby and reassuring to me. My dog was better in 1.5 days under her treatment protocol. I just wish I would have gone to her on Saturday; that would have saved me the $40O I wasted at the substandard national chain. And my dog wouldn’t have suffered for two days. I would give this clinic and vet 10 out of 5 stars if I could.

I am writing to warn other pet owners about the alarming decline in care at this clinic. After being a client for over 15 years, I am shocked by their lack of professionalism and their decision to "fire" me for speaking up about my dog’s safety. 1. Fabricated Medical Data & Poor Service: The front desk was dismissive and rude. They skipped weighing my dog entirely but later "made up" a weight of 6 lbs. My dog actually weighs 5.6 lbs. For a small dog, this 10% error is dangerous for medication dosing. 2. The "Visual" Ear Exam (Highly Unprofessional): When I confronted the doctor about skipping the ear exam, the response was that she "looked at the ears from a distance" and decided they looked fine, so she didn't feel the need to communicate further. This is medically unacceptable. A routine physical exam requires a hands-on check, not a "guess" from across the room. Skipping standard procedures without informing the pet parent is a major breach of trust. 3. Retaliatory Dismissal: Instead of apologizing for these clear oversights, the doctor has now refused to provide further service because I dared to leave a negative review. This is blatant retaliation. Rather than improving their flawed protocols, they chose to abandon a patient of 15 years. This clinic has traded medical integrity for laziness. If you want a vet who actually performs the exams you pay for and doesn't retaliate against honest feedback, please go elsewhere. Their "visual check" is no substitute for real medicine. The owner’s solution to their rude receptionists is to call customers and tell them they can no longer be served. Absolutely absurd. Instead of training their staff to be professional, they kick out the customers who point out the truth. Truly the worst management I have ever seen. P.S .check out their reviews about front desk staff P.S . go to modern animal hospital VIP service and much reasonable price.

Gave my dog 6 months to live, it’s been 3 years. Provided my dog heart medication almost $300 a month he did not need. My dog got a scratch in his eye, said there was nothing they can do and sent me to a specialist. Specialist (Integrative Eye Ophthalmology) took a picture with an IPHONE and said my dog was fine as the red were clearly red blood vessels forming. Hundreds of dollars for something an iPhone was able to see but not my dogs’ primary doctors. Dr. Kwon and Lucia are frauds in my humble opinion. I am more angry at myself that I let convenience keep me coming back to you guys for a shameful 4 years even though there were consistent issues. Asked for flea medication, I need to pay $85 for a check up first per dog LOL Editing because check the reviews! They have family and friends giving 5 stars don’t be fooled by the ratings, they said they’ll email me my dogs’ records and I have yet to receive them. Editing ** I just called to remind them about providing my dogs’ medical records to which they responded “Yes! Sorry we forgot, it’s been busy, but we have 48 hours.” YES YOU HAVE 48 HOURS BUT YOU CLOSE IN TWO HOURS FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS!!! They are so unorganized and quite frankly idiotic. They forgot they’re closed the weekend or what?

We ❤ Olympic Pet Hospital !!! I can not recommend this pet hospital enough, and I'm not the only one in the know. This hospital has a steady stream of loyal persons and pets making their way through the door. The staff is always so helpful in making appointments, setting reminders, providing a deeper insight into after care, and preventative care. My pup has been here since she came home. No matter what service they have provided her, she has always healed exceptionally! I've also heard how they are with other people's animals, and they are so compassionate and tender. Which is a dream for me. I feel so relieved leaving my little love in their care, because I know they care as much as I do. 🐶 The parking is a little tricky, but if you come early and anticipate tight parking, you'll be less surprised. Also, don't be afraid to take your time exiting the parking lot, just so you don't add any stress to yourself before, during, or after your animal's visit. [Update] We've since returned for our annual physical and updated shots. Although they were busy, the front staff is always so helpful and pleasant. The doctor is such a gentle delight. He provides helpful advice, checked my pup thoroughly, and offered positive suggestions I plan to implement into her routine. I'm so grateful for the commendable, dependable experience.
