How to Save Money at Little Tokyo Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Little Tokyo Pet Clinic is the best! I have been going here with my dog Moose since I’ve rescued him (2021). He’s had hip surgery with Dr. Chung and recovered beautifully. He also has allergy issues and I really appreciated how Dr. Chung explained all the options for me clearly. Moose now is very happy with the allergy treatment we agreed on and doing great! They have never pressured me into paying for an expensive test or been pushy about his care. I really like how they lay out all the options and understand that pet care is expensive and will work with you on giving your pet the best care within your budget. Please give them a try! You won’t regret it. Here are a few photos of Moose happily recovering from hip surgery

We have been coming to Little Tokyo Pet Clinic for over 10 years with our 2 fur babies. Dr. Chung and her team of experts deeply care about the pets that visit them. When my baby had IVDD and couldn’t walk- the team helped him walk again with proper treatment. And when it was time to let our other baby go, they were supportive both scientifically and spiritually. After we made the tough decision, our memorable last day with her wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the team encouraging we could go enjoy one last special moment together before sending her to heaven. We took our baby to the beach and created memories that we will have forever. Our hearts are full because of Little Tokyo Pet Clinic and we are forever grateful for their care.

Service was really nice and it was good that they could take us on short notice (cat fever) Cons: they take your pet to the back and you cant see them treat her, they really hike up the prices on the tests, and arent very transparent with their recommendations. very much seems like they care about money more than your pet, sure it’s a business but the prices for tests are INSANE. the treatment for fever was decently priced though. If you dont know what you want/need, or if it’s not urgent, do not go here.

I went with a serious emergency and very limited funds. Dr. J. along with her staff were amazing! Took care of baby and gave me information to get more affordable help. This place and the people working here, care for the well being of your babies! Thanks you so much Dr J!

I can't say enough good things about Little Tokyo Pet Clinic and my experience there. The hospital is a very clean and modern facility. The staff are super friendly, helpful and responsive. The entire team took very good care of my senior (14 yo) mini schnauzer. My fur baby was having some GI issues and wasn't eating and having some other issues so I took him to LTPC to get checked out. They did a thorough check and workup on him and performed X-rays and other diagnostic testing onsite with results and clear imaging emailed to me while I waited. Dr. C explained everything, including test results very clearly and I left feeling like I had a good game plan going forward regarding my baby's care. This clinic is the best and would highly recommend them.
