How to Save Money at Emerald Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Agahi and her staff are the most wonderful and incredible people I've come across in the veterinary world. Luna loved making visits, and I always felt comfortable and secure. I'm glad I found you, and I'm thankful for all the support I received towards the end of my pet's life. I'm forever grateful.

Avoid at all costs! 1. Waited over 30 days to get the answer to a simple question that was based on a test result. 2. Brought in my cat for a consultation as there were ongoing issues. Saw Dr. Anahita for a short period of time. Before she left the room she said (and I quote) “I’ll be back”. She never returned, but sent her staff instead. My cat had the same ear issue, this was the third time he had it and treatment was prescribed exactly the same. I questioned this approach via the staff member, left a text message, a voice message, only to get a response that I needed to bring my cat for a recheck in 1-2 weeks and that moving forward ear cleaning should be done at the clinic. Ear cleaning costs 80$, when staff cleaned my cat’s ears for the first time they did a very bad job, so I opted out of this procedure as I clean his ears much better myself. I asked to culture my cat’s ears and no response was received. My cat’s breathing issue was also not addressed. Came into the clinic the next day and waited two hours to get a response in person (because last time it took over one month to get attention from anyone) only to receive attitude from Sean, the receptionist. This place doesn’t care about your animals, their prices are ridiculous and the only reason I came here was close proximity to home. 3. When I brought my cat for initial evaluation, Dr. Anahita looked at his groin and confirmed he was cryptorchid. I went to neuter my cat at another clinic because a price quoted here was atrocious, only to find out those balls were not balls, they were his lymph nodes. Guess what, when Dr. Anahita found out he was already neutered, she said something like she would have known he was neutered. I guess the lady forgot she was the one who touched his lymph nodes herself and assured me those were his testicles. I would not trust her make a single cut on my animal since she lacks basic knowledge. Will submit a complaint to the veterinary board of California to get these diagnostics looked at.

I’ve been bringing my dog here for over three years, and I truly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Agahi. She is incredibly thorough and always takes her time during appointments. She is so kind and gentle with my dog , and my dog absolutely loves her, which says everything. Dr. Agahi clearly explains what tests are necessary and always personally calls to review results with me. She takes the time to answer every single question I have and never makes me feel rushed. That level of care and communication means so much. The staff is also very friendly and always treats my dog with kindness. On multiple occasions, they’ve been accommodating and able to offer same-day appointments when something urgent came up. It’s clear they genuinely care about their patients and their families. I’m so grateful to have found a vet team I completely trust with my dog’s care.

I visited the office on Sunday afternoon and was pleased to meet a young, eager vet who spent a great deal of time with my three dogs. They have seen several other vets in the past, but none have taken the time or gone into as much detail as she did. While I know I can't fully evaluate someone's knowledge based on just one visit, I felt much more comfortable with her than with other doctors. Notably, my pooches weren't shaking with anxiety while they were there, which was a significant sign for me. Given that they are all 10 years old, I'm considering changing their vet to ensure they receive the best care as they age. The doctor thoroughly explained the plans for my pets, and this was the first time I felt I could truly trust someone to take care of them as much as possible. Overall, I’m very hopeful about this new direction for my furry companions.

So happy with my experience at Emerald Animal Hospital! I recently got a kitten and needed to take her to the vet. The staff member who helped me out was John Paul and was very helpful and welcoming. The doctor was also very informative and gave my kitten celine the best first vet experience.
