How to Save Money at Prestige Animal Hospital - North Fontana

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don’t normally leave reviews and I am a very understanding person, however when it comes to my dogs I am not. I brought my 4 month 16 lb puppy in for shots. I was the only person there. It took 40 minutes for only 2 shots. They then told me she freaked out and peed and pooped…..I can’t imagine what would cause her to react like this being locked in a crate for 30 minutes, when I could’ve just held her since they clearly weren’t ready. She screamed and snarled for 10 minutes straight, even the front desk lady said ‘oh wow that’s a lot of screaming, poor baby.’ In no circumstance should it take 40 minutes for 2 quick shots and then say she will need sedation next time. (Sounds like more money) Saying I need to sedate my puppy because she has to get two small shots is insane. I could’ve given her the shots. This is the 7th puppy I have had in my life. Every other vet gives the shots in front of me and most the time the dog doesn’t even know. I truly don’t know what they were doing to my puppy for 40 minutes and why she was screaming for 10 minutes straight for TWO little shots. I really don’t recommend taking your pets here, they were not helpful and did not prioritize my puppy’s health. 40 minutes for 2 shots and I was the only person there, then telling me I need to pay to sedate my dog for next time…..absolutely insane. If you can’t give a puppy two small shots then I’m not sure you are in the right profession.

Very understanding, attentive staff. The doctors are very knowledgeable and give you many options on treatments but what I appreciated most was they are not pushy or judgmental. They give you the freedom to decide what’s best for your pet and yourself. Unfortunately our most recent visit we had to put our beloved Tootsie down. Cushings disease was taking its toll on her. The staff was very accommodating with time given to say goodbye and letting me hold her during the process. Thank you for your compassion and understanding during this very difficult process.

The team at Prestige was great—scheduling our appointment was easy, and the veterinarian was patient, thorough, and gave us helpful advice. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I’ll happily keep making the trip from Riverside to North Fontana to bring our furry friends here.

I find a lot of strays and bring them here for a microchip check and to treat normal things regarding the strays (fleas, ticks, and occasionally worms). They’re always very kind and excited to see all the animals I bring in. They’re patient with the more aggressive dogs and they inform me about different resources if I need help with a cat or dog. What kept me coming back originally was a chip-read with Jennifer. She seemed so interested and genuine when I told her about the stray I found and it let me know that these people actually care. All staff that I have met have been equally as kind and helpful! I’ve been there a total of 3 times so far and there are more visits to come.

My first visit, at this new animal hospital (located near Home Depot) was wonderful! From the moment that I walked in, I felt good vibes from the staff. Marissa was our nurse who thoroughly explained all the vaccinations that would be needed for my fur baby. She also highlighted ones that were recommend, but did not force us to have these administered. Dr. Kenneth Aponte has a huge heart for animals, without a doubt we have found a place that truly cares about the pet owners and their pets. Thank you for being an amazing office!
