How to Save Money at Sepulveda Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve had two different pets with this hospital and when they passed away, I found another little animal hospital near me that was closer, but To neuter my cat they wanted freaking $1500???? I had had my female cat that had passed away. She had gotten spayed for $850 so you know what I went back to Sepulveda animal hospital and I got my little boy Neutered for like $700 something. Literally the night before the darn cat walked directly in front of me and I almost fell over, but I stepped on his little foot. Luckily, only a couple of hours later he was going to be worked on, and they were able to neuter him and put a little cat cast on him at the same time. I thought the whole thing was crazy reasonable and I was thrilled with the level of customer service. Forget that local place , I’m gonna go back to Sepulveda again.

My senior foster dog was assigned to this veterinarian practice. I have now adopted him (he was a foster-fail) and I am very happy with the care he received here. I will also be transferring my second dog to this practice as well. The staff and doctors are professional, efficient and personable. From the few visits I observed, I appreciated the way they handle my anxious rescue boy - an 80 lb. Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix. They are respectful of his boundaries, and work with him to alleviate his fears. They are closed on Sundays; however, I was impressed that I received a follow up email from his doctor early Sunday morning, summarizing his lab results and making additional suggestions for his further care. The cost of his care is very reasonable. I am bringing my other dog over from a VCA, where I have been disappointed with the rising costs and the pressure to sign up for their membership care plans. And I no longer want to spend days trying to contact the VCA, because they do not have enough staff to pick up their phones, or cannot fill a prescription in a timely way because their pharmacists 'left'. Also, I do not think my dog gets the best continuing care at a VCA, because the doctors are never the same for each visit, and seem to leave after 3 or 4 months anyway. Good-bye VCA. I will now take my beloved dogs to this very professional independent practice at Sepulveda Animal Hospital for stability and continuity and peace of mind.

Everyone is always very nice and knowledgeable. My dog came in for one injection and to get her nails trimmed. Minimal waiting. Very fast and efficient. Honestly, I do think that $49 to get a dog‘s nails trimmed is way overpriced, but it’s worth it. Thank you so much.

Not great. I am a very long time client. Dr. Galea, had been our vet for 30 years, 8 dogs & a dozen cats. Culture has changed in the bus he founded. Prices continue to rise & service has become without concern, questionable & prohibitive of good affordable pet care. I won’t go into detail because I’m still hoping they will correct their business style or policy or whatever causes them to charge automatically to walk through the door without providing any medical insight . And I don’t want to pay with a credit card. I have great credit and I don’t need more debt. I need affordable prices and actual Medical care for the money spent. There’s a lot of money in the area increasing with property values, however, there are also Long time residents, from before LA was in demand, an aging population of permanent residents who’ve retired on a fixed income Especially here in Culver City, so this is insensitive & predatory. The tariffs haven’t hit yet. What will they charge then? Assuming we aren’t hiding in a bunker somewhere with the new administration’s war mongering & dissolving the world economies. Point is these are really hard times in the future is uncertain. I would love to see a little kindness.

My beloved cat is 18 years old and it is a comfort to know we have a vet who knows her well and is taking such good care of her as her health changes.
