How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet, Catherine I believe was so nice, explained everything. She made me feel much better about the situation, I was a bit stressed. I was in and out fairly quick. They do have a monitor which shows what patients would be taken in first due to severity of illness which I thought was cool. Hopefully, I'll never have to go back but I did have a great experience while I was there.

Dr. Nelson and her staff today were the best in helping me with my beloved cat Moonshine, 19 plus years old and I let her go today with the help of this great ER Vet. Very caring kind gentle, understanding and professional. Showed me all the test results and explained them to me, never had that happen before. Thank you so much! I told Dr Nelson about Moonshine sticking her tongue out so sharing it here for her to see. Moonshine the love of my life, will forever be missed, but no longer in pain.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Harris and the internal medicine team here. She was able to answer our questions and start a plan of care, which meant so much to us after weeks of being unable to figure out what was wrong. Thank you Sebastian and Melanie as well for taking great care of Daphne! She unfortunately passed a couple months later from her illness, but we were able to give her a better quality of life in her final weeks thanks to their help and knowledge. We really appreciated having a great vet during such a horrible time. I have recommended them to other pet owners who are looking for a specialist and will continue to, thank you again for caring for my baby!

My dog was attacked by 2 other dogs, and we paid $ 3000 to get her fixed. Even after we paid them, they kept asking for money for a catheter because they said she couldn't pee, and they said she couldn't move or walk. When we couldn't afford to keep her there, we had to pick her up, and when we did, she had a hole in her chest with tissue sticking out. When I told them about it they said they didn't do anything about it because we didn't pay more money. They told us the best option would be for her to get euthanized. So we took her to another vet, and they said she would survive and that she could pee and walk. We paid for to get stitched up, and she's fine now. We almost killed a family member because of how badly this vet handled the situation.

Terrible Experience at BluePearl Pet Hospital - Avoid at All Costs! If I could give ZERO stars, I would!!! Review: I cannot express enough how utterly disappointed I am with the service provided by BluePearl Pet Hospital. I rushed my dog there at 5 pm due to him pooping pure blood, expecting urgent care for my sweet doodle. However, what ensued was a nightmare of incompetence and neglect. Upon arrival, we were made to wait for nearly 2 hours before they bothered to take my dog's vitals, despite the urgency of his condition. Shockingly, they attended to four other dogs before even assessing my pet's situation. To add insult to injury, after enduring a torturous 4-hour wait, they callously informed us that my dog's condition wasn't considered critical. Meanwhile, my poor pet continued to suffer, pooping blood a staggering 8 times in their lobby! In desperation, I reached out to other vets, who confirmed the severity of my dog's condition, contrasting starkly with BluePearl's dismissive attitude. Faced with the prospect of another agonizing 4-hour wait, we had no choice but to leave, fearing for my pet's life as his organs were potentially shutting down from the blood loss. It was clear that BluePearl's staff lacked both competence and compassion. In a desperate bid for help, we sought assistance elsewhere and found solace at VEG near the Biltmore. Despite the distance, their prompt and attentive care was a stark contrast to the abysmal treatment we received at BluePearl. In conclusion, I implore pet owners to steer clear of BluePearl Pet Hospital unless they wish to subject their beloved animals to neglect and incompetence. Choose a vet who values the lives of your pets as much as you do.
