I love Trupanion

I love this company. My vet recommended Trupanion when I adopted my cat and I have never looked back. The rates are reasonable and fair and entirely transparent. I always know where I stand. The claims process is easy and very quick. Everything is explained clearly. Whenever I have had to contact a representative, I have been pleased at their kindness and competence. They even thank me for taking good care of my cat. How's that for class?

Deductible per illness & pre-existing condition limits are tough to handle.

So, I have 3 cats, all of whom are insured with trupanion. My pets are either at or approaching 10 years old, and they were insured starting when they were 4 or younger. For 2 of my pets, trupanion is pretty helpful. For the other one, who happens to have a very common urinary tract issue that arose before I had insurance, any urinary tract issue he has is not covered at all. So, for the pet I most need insurance help for, trupanion is of no help. I've often thought of just canceling his policy, honestly. It's compounded by the fact that the deductible is PER ILLNESS, not per year, so if one of my other pets had more than 1 serious illness, I'd be looking at still paying thousands out of pocket. I've paid for trupanion every month for 7 years for 3 pets, and it still really sucks that I can't get help for one of my pets because he got sick when I was experiencing unexpected and sudden disability (ie couldn't afford insurance). Pre-existing condition restrictions are rubbish for humans and for pets. ALSO! My pets' premiums just went up by over 35%! That's per pet, per month, for an additional $540/year. I just...what the hell. That's so freaking high.

THANKS FOR NOTHING, LIARS!

From the website page titled ‘What We Cover:’ “WHAT WE DON’T COVER: A Trupanion policy covers the medical treatment of all unexpected injuries and illnesses.” LIE. I called to inquire about our dog’s Cryptorchidism, and of course, NO ITS NOT COVERED. Are they calling my dogs condition and need for anesthetic, life-threatening, special surgery expected? You have falsely advertised and PROVEN YOURSELF AS BAD OR WORSE THAN ANY OTHER BS INSURANCE FOR PROFIT. SHAME ON YOU I’LL MAKE SURE YOU LOSE SUBSCRIBERS FOR PRESENTING A FALSE FRONT ABOUT YOUR CARING FULL COVERAGE THAT TURNS OUT TO BE A LIE. THANKS FOR NOTHING, LIARS! EDIT: I knew one was coming and I waited for a cheap response like yours. Probably a macro response, since my pets name not mentioned. My vet agreed you should cover. My vet at VCA (your partner) agreed you should cover. Expect a small claims lawsuit and my continued effort to send people to anyone but you as well as take any current customer away from you I can. I watched this review because I knew your bs response would be incoming. An un-dropped testicle, and the surgery required for it, is nothing like a regular neuter. Shame on you and your excuses to lie. It says ‘don’t worry no unexpected illnesses or injuries’. This is a full scale surgery not a neuter. For the rest of my life I’ll attempt to undermine your company in any way possible. You are liars >.< Also I’d like to point out my “in-network” vet said if we elected to let R.J. take the risk of letting the testicle actually become a tumor, ironically, it would then be covered for many more $1000s of dollars. I hope your policy makers (whoever makes you respond like you did) rot.

Trupanion, thank you. Thank you for your proactive assistance and efficient claims process. You make it simple and having coverage for our dearest Bella is the best thing we ever did when we adopted her. Trupanion is providing excellent coverage and with the care of our DVM she is doing very well.

Monthly Cost

Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.

Coverage

Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.

Payout Limits

The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit. That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.

Deductible

If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.

Age Limits

All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting Period

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details. However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
