BEWARE!!!!
BEWARE!!!!! Read the very fine print! I never write reviews, but apparently this company is beginning to accumulate several in the past month. We have had two bad experiences.
At the recommendation of a highly respected vet, while in the office for first visit, we chose Trupanion. Supposedly the puppy check required by the breeder wouldn't be covered. Dog got a clean bill of health. We were told coverage would be retroactive starting with that visit.
A week later, the dog started gnawing on her back leg. We took her back and the vet provided something (Which I don't remember.) We asked that the bill be sent to insurance.
IT WAS REJECTED FOR A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION! How does one have a pre-exisitng condition when the week before the dog was healthy?
We appealed a couple of times and gave up.
During my due diligence, right after the first visit, I had called Trupanion and spoke with someone about spaying the dog (As required by the breeder) they said it would be partially covered. (The vet had also said the same thing) So we thought it would be a good tradeoff, insurance would help lower the cost.
We just had our dog spayed, and Trupanion rejected the claim. No elective surgery and another pre-existing condition. Maybe the website has always read as it does now, but I am generally pretty careful about financial matters and am pretty sure I would have caught some of the carefully worded phrases.
We are out over $400 for premiums!
