How to get Trupanion to help pay the claim

My experience with Trupanion at first was terrible!...Then it started to slowly get better, and I will tell you how that happened. Edit: (Originally I lefted a 1-star review, but changed my mind when they overturned things for the better). Trupanion denied my claim twice before. They wrote in automated emails that they would do all the work and investigate it. They told me saying that I didn't have to do anything 'JUST LEAVE IT UP TO THEM'. My dog had a Mass Cell Tumor (MCT/Lipoma) removed surgically in a area which was her stomach that wasn't prior to what they had called my vet about. I knew Trupanions policy since I have read and comprehend that they won't cover pre-existing conditions, wellness exams or check-ups. So they made my claim ineligible twice and brought up a 'lump' on her leg from back in 2019 that had nothing to do with the area where she had surgery. It wasn't a cancerous tumor on her leg, just a fatty tissue. I contacted Trupanion over five times, and they told me and my fiance the same thing, they told us to call the vet and try to appeal the case. Basically the whole thing frustrated me, because the vet told them all of the details and agreed with us that we should have been paid for the cancer removal. Trupanion added in their own details of what the MCT is and denied the claim a second time after it was appealed. It was a lot of back and forth calling them, then my fiance called my vet. Finally Trupanion accepted the claim after my amazing vet (who did surgery on my dog to remove the cancer) faxed/emailed a letter to them. Trupanion covered what was less than half of the bill, which was okay, because now my fur-baby will be covered in the future. That's what this insurance is for. I pay it monthly so that when my dog need it, it could help her get the best care at vet clinics. Thank you Trupanion for finally working things out with us. We appreciate your team accepting our claim and digging deeper into the correct details for our case.

Monthly Cost

Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.

Coverage

Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.

Payout Limits

The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit. That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.

Deductible

If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.

Age Limits

All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting Period

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details. However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
