BEWARE French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxer ETC. DO NOT USE TRUPANION. Use tactics to pay you less, read below. DO NOT USE TRUPANION
Beware, do not waste your money with Trupaion.
First- I have a 2 year old French Bulldog who is Brachycephalic.
THEY DO NOT COVER Brachycephalic problems!! Meaning if you have a pug, boxer, french/english bulldog, boston terrier, pekingese, king charles cavalier, your pets breathing surgery (if they need) or any related problems are NOT COVERED.
In addition, they find ways to pay you less. Read Example below:
I had an emergency visit where my dog was bit by another, and had a lacerated tongue and had to get 6 teeth removed.
I had two hospital visits totaling $1000. My deductible is $750 to start receiving coverage.
The first visit included an $150 emergency evaluation fee + services in total of a $244 visit. (The $150 visit fee is not eligible for refund, but does count toward my deductible).
The second visit was the remaining $767.
Instead of counting the $244 visit toward the deductible (remember, including an $150 emergency evaluation fee that counts toward deductible, but not eligible to be refunded in a payout), they took the deductible from the second visit ($767), and counted the $244 visit (WHICH WAS THE FIRST VISIT) toward the payout, conveniently so that I would only receive a payout not including the $150 evaluation. I received $83 + $17.
Finding a creative way to structure the pay out so they could give LESS MONEY is the key here.
if they counted the first visit ($244) toward the deductible, I would have met the deductible in the second visit, and received a payout of $234.
$83+ $17 VS $234...
Shady practices. avoid at all costs.
The customer service people on the phone sound like they never graduated highschool and get confused when you bring up an issue, and claim to not know anything about the process.
