Sounds good but read the fine print.
I heard great things about Trupanion. Compared their coverage and signed up. Unfortunately, when it came time to submit claims it was a different story. Example: my dog went in for a standard neuter and they discovered that one of his testes had not dropped (cryptorchidism). This is listed as a covered condition in their marketing materials but when I submitted the claim, they quoted me the fine print where it states that they don't cover cryptorchidism when it is part of the neutering procedure which of course is the most common time that this is addressed. I followed up with the company and eventually (after emailing them numerous times) got a clear explanation however frustrating: "Our policy only covers the cost of accident, illness, and injury related expenses. Even though a Cryptorchid Neuter isn’t a “standard” neuter, it is still a routine procedure, and are largely performed preventatively as the testicle is not descending from the abdominal cavity, and the retained testicle can potentially cause cancerous tumors if left. Our policy would only extend coverage in the event that there was an illness or injury present at the time of the procedure, and it was deemed medically necessary for your pet to have this procedure done by your veterinarian in order to treat that condition. As there is no evidence that there was an underlying condition being treated by this
neuter, we would not be able to extend coverage." So while I thought of it as an unexpected expense (which it was), they don't. So, I give them points for eventually getting back to me with a humanistic response (hence 2 stars instead of 1) but be wary of the typical insurance company double talk and single-minded focus on finding ways to say no to your claims.

Great company
I have nothing to say but good things to say. This company is a pleasure to deal with. I had one issue about a claim and it was resolved easily and quickly. Everyone I have spoken to has been helpful and very nice

I can not recommend Trupanion enough
If only human insurance were 1/2 as good as Trupanion the world would be a much better place.
Trupanion has unmatched customer service (I'm talking about at midnight they will answer the phone with a warm knowledgable person on the other end), are extremely effecient, and fairly fairly priced.
You should never have to wait and worry and panic about whether or not to save your babies life- with Trupanion you never will.
I've had their services for over 10 years now and they are consistent, ethical, reliable, and compassionate.
**Don't bother with any other company. Trupanion is the most widely utilized for a reason.**
Yes, they maybe are $10-20 more per month than their competitors but trust me there is a reason.
In times of death or illness or injury the last thing you need is to be waiting weeks on end for pre-approvals or re-imbursement and you certainly don't want to be on hold for hours either- with Trupanion you don't have to worry about any of that!
Knowing a company like Trupanion exists gives me renewed faith in humanity. After 10 years of working with them I can say that wholeheartedly.

Trupanion is Awesome
Trupanion is Awesome! They are always there to help with Maya our German Shepard medical bills when she became ill. We are so happy we decided to protect her with insurance from day 1 it can get very expensive if your not covered. What a relief.
Monthly Cost
Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.
Coverage
Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.
Payout Limits
The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit.
That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.
Deductible
If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.
Age Limits
All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life
Waiting Period
Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details.
However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
Like many other pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions. Whichever insurer you choose, it pays to enroll early!
