Hands down the best

I'm a veterinarian and have experience with many pet insurance companies, both for my own pets and for the pets of my clients. On a personal note, our beloved 3 year old dog contracted a serious infection, was hospitalized for 10 days, and tragically died of a blood clot to the brain when all other systems were on the mend. During this terrible time, it was comforting to know that we could make important care decisions without concerns about cost. Trupanion reimbursed us quickly for 90% of everything less the one time deductible and the small administrative fees. During a time of stress and ultimately grief, Trupanion came through. We experienced, and I hear from my clients, that Trupanion lacks the bureaucracy of other plans. The plan options are uncomplicated compared to others, and I take great comfort in knowing that the Plan's underwriter is owned by Trupanion. My last pet plan switched its underwriter, and suddenly our costs increased and we had a plan with less desirable coverage. I recommend Trupanion to my clients without reservation.

Excellent coverage

Trupanion has excellent coverage and a fast turn around for summited claims. We are not sure where we would be without having pet insurance and would highly recommended to anyone when getting a pet to buy insurance as well.

Life saver

Our cat had diabetes, allergies and renal failure requiring daily medication. Trupanion paid for all his medical care including needles, test strips and over-the-counter allergy medications. They always processed my claims quickly and I was even able to submit by sending photos of the receipts and claim form by email. Our cat was hospitalized twice, and both times Trupanion paid the vet hospital directly. We will definitely get Trupanion coverage when we adopt our next pet.

Peace of Mind

We decided to get our dog insured after struggling to afford medications and tests for our cat. I'd had another cat previously that I also struggled to afford veterinary care for, so at the suggestion of my boyfriend, we decided to go the insurance route. We got our dog signed up through their trial of insurance that we got at our veterinarian. Shortly after she broke a tooth, which they covered. A few months later she ate a naproxen tablet, which is toxic! I think the cat was trying to kill her because those pills were safely on the table when we left the house! Well they covered that vet stay too. Then she started vomiting and was later diagnosed with IBD. Not only have they covered that as well, but they pay my vet directly right at checkout so I don't have to worry about paying the full bill. It's been a real relief to pick up more than $200 worth of medication per month and only have to pay less than $20. We've been able to do things like ultrasound and endoscopy to diagnose what she has instead of treating her symptoms and hoping for the best like we've had to do in the past with other pets. We're even using Chinese herbal therapy right now to treat the IBD! We honestly could not have done all of that without Trupanion.

Monthly Cost

Your monthly premium is determined by multiple factors including your pet’s species, gender, breed, age, zip code, and the deductible amount you choose if your policy allows.

Coverage

Depending on your plan, the Trupanion policy pays up to 100% of your vet bill for all eligible expenses. There are unlimited payout limits, always and Trupanion will never increase or cancel your coverage because of claims you submit. Coverage includes new accidents and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions, diagnostic tests, hospital stays, and much more. Trupanion prides itself on paying out more on the dollar than any other provider and has paid out nearly $2 billion in claims to date.

Payout Limits

The Trupanion policy* has no payout limits, so whether your pet needs one quick visit or a lifetime of care, your coverage won’t quit. That can mean a big difference if your pet develops a chronic condition requiring extended care like allergies, diabetes, or even cancer.

Deductible

If your Trupanion policy has a deductible, you can customize it to fit your budget. You can choose from $50 to $1,000 in increments of $5, or choose to have no deductible at all. Trupanion deductibles are per-condition and good for the life of your pet. That means no annual resets-once a deductible is met, you never have to pay the deductible for that condition again.

Age Limits

All new pets can enroll from birth until their 14th birthday. Once your pet is enrolled, they can be enrolled for life

Waiting Period

Waiting periods vary by state. Please see your states policy for full coverage details. However, other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
