Immediately canceled my policy after this

I had a policy for each of my cats. Per the contract, pre-existing conditions are not covered. However, they have a 180-day period where if a condition doesn't occur, it is not considered pre-existing. This stood out to me as a positive since pretty much no insurance company allows pre-existing conditions (this is a huge fail with health insurance, pet or human, but that's another conversation). One of my cats needed emergency surgery to remove an eye, and after I submitted the almost $2,000 claim, I found it was rejected/not covered due to it being a pre-existing condition for something that had occurred 220 days prior. One, THIS wasn't related to the other vet visit, at all -- this was an emergency. Two, it was well over the 180-day grace period even if they could try their hardest to related the two. The rep told me that since it was noted on his vet records, it IS considered pre-existing (but it was unrelated??) and it will NOT be covered. What is the point of pet insurance if they don't cover emergency surgeries which are always expensive? And what is the point of sticking with a policy/company if they don't uphold their word?
