Brutal premium hike after one year!
We purchased pet Insurance with Spot last year shortly after adopting a cat. The rate was good $182 and claims were promptly paid. After one year in which we had claims that approximately matched our premium they have boosted our premium to $500!!! Not sure why this drastic increase in price came about and i couldn’t understand the woman who took my call at the call center due to her heavy accent. I’m extremely disappointed in Spot Insurance do to our > 150% rate increase…

Horrible i sign up with this insurance 6 months ago i paid they misleading me about claim
My dog had allergies and they give him medication it’s expensive i send the invoice won’t cover it just imagine $93.00 dollars they won’t pay what happen if surgery horrible customer service before you buy the policy you hear all good after they don’t know you don’t buy anything from this company

Claim nightmare
When submitting a first claim, Spot keeps insisting on requiring health records for our cat from 1/1/2024 to the present. This cat is a 14 month old rescue with no health history before 10/2025. We supplied all heath records we have from the rescue shelter and our new vet, but Spot refuses to process claim. We are now trying to cancel account with Spot and are running in to a new series of road blocks.

Nightmare claim process
We adopted a 13 month old cat from a rescue shelter in Oct 2025, established a vet account with an initial exam and then purchased insurance from Spot. In late Nov 2025 we had a return visit to the vet for a minor medical issue. We submitted an online claim, mainly to see how the process worked since the dollar amount was only $81. Well, weeks later we receive an email stating that health records from 1/1/2024 are required. We had sent all records available already during the claim process, and being a rescue, the oldest records were from Sept 2025 when the cat was processed by the rescue center. I called the Spot help line trying to explain that there are no health records prior to being rescued. I was assured that this information would be passed on and the claim would be processed. Several days later we get another email reiterating the requirement for health records from 1/1/2024 to be supplied or the claim would be denied. At this point we cancelled the policy. If health history is required for the first claim, the information required should be part of the policy application not months after paying and discovering that Spot does not know how to process a first claim for a rescue with limited health history.
Monthly Cost
Rates start at: $10 (for accident only), $16 (Complete Coverage). plan costs vary based on plan type, pet breed, age, and location.
Coverage
The pay-out amount is based on the actual vet bill, at a rate pre-selected by the customer: 90%, 80% or 70%
Payout Limits
Annual limits can be set by the customer, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, including an unlimited option.
No lifetime limits.
Deductible
$100, $250, $500, $750 or $1000 annually.
Age Limits
No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.
Waiting Period
There are no waiting periods for preventive care. Coverage begins 14 days after date listed on policy for accidents, illnesses, and knee/ligament conditions.
Exclusions
Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures and breeding costs are not covered.
Spot Pet Insurance has two Preventive Care plans that can be added to help cover a pet’s wellness care, including annual exams, vaccinations, tests, dental cleanings and flea/heartworm preventive. Preventive Care plans reimburse up to a set amount for each listed treatment.
If your pet exhibited symptoms of a knee and ligament condition at any time, prior to enrollment or during a waiting period, all ligament and knee conditions will be excluded. Ligament and Knee are conditions involving a ligament, patella, meniscus or soft tissue disorder of the knee.
