ANYONE WHO WANTS PUMPKIN PLEASE READ…
ANYONE WHO WANTS PUMPKIN PLEASE READ THIS!!!! THEY ARE HORRID!!!
THEY LOOK TO DENY!!!
I had pet insurance for my young pet and it was cancelled because the company exited the pet insurance business. I think that should be illegal without rolling you over somewhere but is what it is. My pet is young (at the time, 2) and healthy so I wasn’t worried. On the day my dog went to get his glands expressed, something he had done a couple of times before, he was very lethargic and had trouble getting up on the bed. It took weeks to diagnose him with a partial ACL tear. The day I took him to vet my insurance was activated BUT they said bc I called for appt day before (for anal glands not illness) nothing would be covered. Gets worse!!!
My dog was misdiagnosed multiple times, big bills. More than the $10k pumpkin recommends. Not that I saw any of it. Apparently partial tears are hard to diagnose (esp if you mri the wrong area!)
1. My dog had his glands expressed. Naturally pumpkin said the visit was for lethargy and pain and I’m disqualified. My coverage for ACL began THAT DAY like I couldn’t wait one or two or three days. I didn’t take my dog in for lethargy.
2. The drs office SENT A NOTE on appeal that the visit was for anal gland expression that this is what I called for. They didn’t put it on the bill bc they did it for free bc my bill was quite large from x rays. I explained the trouble this caused me. I identified the tech who did the expression. Pumpkin not only denied it but wouldn’t discuss the drs note. You will not be allowed to talk to a human. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TALK ON THE PHONE TO A HUMAN.
3. I was continuously covered and sent proof.
4. Dont be swayed by their coverage without age limitations provision like I was. I looked at three insurances and I had a hard time deciding between them. I was worried about my dog getting old without coverage. I didn’t read enough about it. Bottom line- reviewers have written the coverage goes up astronomically for older dogs and of course your max stays the same.
5. This is THE MOST DISGUSTING PART. Because they tested my dog for everything and some tests showed up mildly positive (you know how you get blood tests some things aren’t in the band but no dr contacts you) they (pumpkin) sent me in an email other illness exclusions I’d have because of the testing. Hilarity- my exclusions are ILLNESS A VS ILLNESS B they wrote that for real! Because nothing was diagnosed! It was all SPECULATION. go to the Dr get a million tests and this is what happens. But pumpkin is a riot- my dog will not be covered for what COULD BE illness A or B. Not kidding. I imagine the list would get longer. I am warning you- this company will LOOK FOR A REASON TO DENY YOU and they present themselves as the opposite. You may think well you’ll be ok if you sign up from birth but I don’t because every insurer has exclusions and you may not think they apply in your dogs situation but a company like pumpkin LOOKS to apply them as broadly as possible even ignoring documents from your own Dr. They were often unkind over email switched me between many people over email and said no one gets to talk to anyone over the phone about these matters. the whole experience was distant and inhuman. I plan to find ways to warn others. I call it a rubber stamp no because they did NOT ADDRESS THE EVIDENCE IN THE APPEAL AT ALL.
Had other evidence too but thought this was bulletproof.
I complained to the state insurance commission but man is it is a long process. I plan to follow through with any legal action I can. But how do I win? Suppose I do I think they’ll connect anything major to my dogs hospital visit and tests even without a diagnosis or ongoing symptoms. That’s how insidious they are.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIND ANOTHER INSURANCE. YOUR BELOVED DOG DESERVES MUCH BETTER!!!!!
Pumpkin has a stock reply. They use this same response for anyone who disputes if a condition was preexisting. This is the level of customer care you will get. They will not reply to anything specific. I imagine they’ll look for exclusions even for the youngest of puppies. Just a matter of when.
