Very responsive; prompt coverage

Our 10 years old Bouvier recently died of a nasal tumor. During the last year of his life, he incurred some big expenses (MRI, biopsies, etc). Pets Best Insurance has always been very kind and responsive (he had been insured by them his entire life), but never moreso than when the expenses became significant. They covered the 80% to any Vet any where, tests, consultations, 2nd opinions, even alternative care when we still thought he had allergies without any problem Also very kind and made a donation to Canine Cancer research after his death.

Pet's Best is certainly NOT the "best"

I had my four cats insured with Pets Best for several years, and did not have any problem until recently. I adopted an older dog from the local shelter last June, and in July, I added her to the policy. A few months afterwards, I took her to the vet because she was scratching and her skin appeared dry. The doctor prescribed a medication for this issue, and also noticed a lump on her breast. It was suggested that she have a lumpectomy because it might prove to be malignant. I did not have this procedure done until this February because I had other serious health issues with my oldest cat. When I submitted the claim to Pets Best, I recieved several phone calls from them asking for further information. Each time, the same questions were asked, each time the same answer was given. On the day I was to renew my insurance, which I did, I went to my "pet portal" only to find my claim for the dog's lumpectomy had been denied. The reason was, "records from the veterinarian were not submitted". I spoke to my vet. and discovered they had been submitted to Pets Best, within the next business day. I called the Pets Best, and questioned this denial. I was told the vet had not sent the records. When I informed them that indeed the vet had, and even the time of day, the representative became polite, yet condescending. I was even indirectly accused of lieing about her records and where they had originated. The more I told the representative that my dog had only been to one veterina

Pretty good - just not for me

I chose Pets Best based on all the great reviews here. I checked out their website, and I liked that they seemed to cover more things than their competitors -- especially when it came to wellness and dental -- and do the 80/20 reimbursement vs the predetermined coverage amount approach. Their prices were also pretty reasonable (about $35/month for accident, wellness and dental for a 2 y/o cat). I stayed with Pets Best for about year and recently left to switch to Embrace. I should have read the fine print better when I signed up for Pets Best, but I left when I learned their deductible is per incident (like car insurance) -- not annually (like health insurance for people). I just felt like I was not truly getting a value for my money. I filed one claim all year -- about $650 to biopsy, diagnose and treat feline granuloma (a randomly-occurring autoimmune skin flare-up - kind of like canker sores in people). After the deductible ($250), co-pay ($75) and the amount not covered ($25 for medical waste fee and optional fluoride treatment for teeth), I got back around $300, which is a little less than what I paid in annual premiums. I wasn't even breaking even. I was disappointed, though I assumed that I met my deductible for the year and that I'd just have to take this initial hit before the true benefit of having insurance would kick in for the next incident... but I decided to double-check to make sure my assumption was correct. Glad I did, as the agent explained to me t

Pets Best is THE BEST!!

We opened a policy for our cat Cleo when she was about 16 yrs old. In March 2010 when she was 17 she developed some problems...impacted feces, kidney disease. She was treated, we filed a claim and received our claim settlement soon after. Her illnesses caused her health to decline quickly in Feb. 2011 (she was 18). Again all claims settled quickly. We did have to put her to sleep 2/28 and learned they would cover some of the euthanasia/creamtion fees (after $100 deductible). I figure they paid out way more than we paid in ($21.19 a month)which is not what you would expect. The customer service staff is excellent too. If you don't have Pets Best insurance..GET IT!!
