Pets Best | Pet Insurance Review

We are animal lovers and have a houseful of pets. Last summer we found a lost/stray dog who we took in. I never found his people. Chauncey was a sick dog and after investing quite a bit of money into his health, a second cat of ours in a year was diagnosed as hyperthyroid and our vet bills were skyrocketing. Chauncey needed badly to have his teeth cleaned and had not been neutered. I honestly didn't know how we were going to pay for all of this. So, I started looking into insurance. Years ago our cats were covered by VPI and initially I was just going to go with them since they were the "devil known". But when I tried to make sense of how they determine benefit reimbursement amounts I wasn't very happy. After talking to several companies I pondered Pets Best the most. The fella I had talked to over the phone about the insurance and what may or may not be covered and what may or may not be considered pre-existing conditions was so helpful that in the end I decided to give Pets Best a try based on this conversation, and what the Wellness Plan offered. I signed Chauncey up for the insurance and figured I should wait awhile before scheduling the neuter and dental, but Pets Best called me the day the 14 day waiting period was over to let me know that the policy was active and that if I needed to have anything done with him, I could. Decided to get Pets Best Insurance when our daughter was born, we knew it would be hard to cover any unexpected Vet Bills. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it, but when one of our dogs was injured. I was glad I made the decision to get it. Claim process was quick and easy and it covered what I expected. I even took the slow route, by mailing my claim, and we still received our claim check in a timely manner. If there is a next time I will take advantage of the email or fax option and direct deposit of my claim for an even speedier claim process. Thanks again Pets Best.

I had a policy with Pets Best for a short time for my 9 year old miniature poodle. My vet determined my poodle needed cataract surgery. Called Pets Best to be sure it was covered and they said no because it must have been pre-existing. I canceled my policy that day. People with young pets, I would agree, pet insurance is wise to have. However, those of us with older pets, most every illness can be determined as pre-existing if you have had a policy for a short time.

I purchased Pets Best for my two dogs. My lab damaged her ACL 3 months into the program. I was thankful I had purchased the insurance, unfortunately the plan must be in effect for 1 yr before ligament injuries are covered.Out of pocket: $2,800. Coverage : $00.00. I'm still glad I have the insurance and will maintain it as long as my dogs are with me. I understand the reasoning for the delay in coverage. Just read the fine print.

I got Pets Best after thoroughly researching numerous insurance companies out there, and based on reviews Pets Best appeared a great option - most reviews stated quick claims processing and payment of a large portion of vet bills. I have been with them 6+ months and submitted my 1st claim (only for $200) over 1.5 months ago - both my vet and I have gone in circles with them since then and the claim is still unresolved. They 1st contacted me about needing paperwork from the vet - completely understandable. Since my cat had only been to this vet once, I promptly let them know this and also gave them the contact info for her regular vet she had seen her whole life so they could ascertain "pre-existing illnesses" (none existed). A week or so later I was informed via email that my claim was closed because the vet that had seen my cat for her unexpected illness had not sent in records from the one visit. They did not enlist my help is contacting my vet or let me know they were having difficulty reaching them, rather they simply closed my claim out. I was frustrated with this and let them know, and in response a representative called me personally which I was pleasantly surprised by. This has been the only positive aspect of this frustrating, time-consuming process. As soon as I was made aware of my vet not sending in the paperwork and my claim being subsequently closed, I contacted my vet who promptly sent in the paperwork from the one visit.
